Cvtres Fatal Error Cvt1100 Duplicate Resource Type Icon
my project that has two resource files. The first file contains a dialog, a menu etc. except a string table, the second one consists of a string table only. So, every time I try to build my project I get the following error: 1>CVTRES : fatal error CVT1100: duplicate resource. type:STRING, name:969, language:0x0419 1>LINK : fatal error LNK1123: failure during conversion to COFF: file invalid or corrupt I've tried to disable incremental /tlbid linking, to rename string labels in the string table, to completely change identificators of the strings, to google this issue, to search this ID in my solution, but the error remaines unchanged except the following part: name:969 Please help me, I'm really annoyed with this issue. Thanks in advance! c++ resources share|improve this question edited Jan 28 '14 at 17:30 asked Jan 28 '14 at 17:15 CaptainRR 4216 2 You probably have two different symbols equated to 969 in your resource.h file. –Mark Ransom Jan 28 '14 at 17:33 Yep, you are right, but I tried to find this symbols and I failed. Actually, my solution hasn't resources with such ID. I created a project for experiments and after some time I found out that Visual Studio changes this IDs during the compilation process. I hope that someone had the similar issue and can tell me what the solution is. –CaptainRR Jan 28 '14 at 17:47 add a comment| 2 Answers 2 active oldest votes up vote 2 down vote accepted I had similar problem with duplicate strings. I tried to move strings with IDs 9001 - 9019 from main .rc file to second .rc and I've got this error from linker: 2>CVTRES : fatal error CVT1100: duplicate resource. type:STRING, name:564,

Error Lnk1123
Question 0 Sign in to vote I posted on this problem last year fatal error lnk1123: failure during conversion to coff and never received a satifactory answer. To recap. I migrated a special purpose application from Windows NT 3.51, written in VC++ 4.2 to Windows XP and VC++ 2005. After dealing with a large number of standard functions that had been deprecated, the code compiled but I got the indicated error above. I was never able to http://stackoverflow.com/questions/21412310/how-to-resolve-cvt1100-typestring-in-visualstudio-2010 get around this link error. Eventually, I obtained VC++ 4.2 from Microsoft, installed it on the XP development machine, and made my modifications to it. I got this application to run with the new hardware. This solution, however, is unsatisfactory because we don't won't to rely on an old compiler no longer supported by Microsoft. I decided to return to the VC++ 2005 compiler and try again after https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/vstudio/en-US/ca805bad-9893-483b-8482-6e6ccaa0a4f8/cvtres-fatal-error-cvt1100-duplicate-resource-typeicon-name1-language0x0409-link-?forum=vclanguage incorporating all of the changes I made in the VC++ 4.2 version. Once again, I got the same link error. My attempts to fix this problem have included the following: (1) renumbering all of the identifiers in the resource.h file to eliminate any duplicates; (2) going into properties and changing the TypeLib resource ID from 1. Other approaches I've played with have been to rename ICON (the compiler didn't like that) and renumbering the two identifiers associated with ICON (no effect), among others. I'm wondering if the "language 0x0409" is some kind of a clue. In the StdAfx.h file, I've indicated that the version is 0x0501 - Windows XP - explicitly. That didn't help - I got the same message - but it suggests that there may be something I need to define somewhere - possibly in StdAfx.h. Other than the change I indicated, I've left that header untouched. Prior to my adding a definition of WINVER, the only stuff in the StdAfx.h file were related to MFC database related functions. I may be off on the wrong track here but I've literally attempted everything I can think of in the realm of the resource.h file and resource
