LCD panel displays "E1410 CPU1 IERR E1410 CPU2 IERR". According to Dell, the meaning of the error follows... -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Intel CPU IERR Filtering Algorithm and Fault Isolation Methodology CPU's manufactured by Intel Corporation have an internal error or IERR signal that is usually tied to an e1410 system fatal error poweredge 2950 interrupt line or to an external monitor. The original purpose of this signal was to indicate an internal, unrecoverable CPU error. The normal procedure is to replace any CPU that signals an IERR. More recently, the IERR signal is also triggered by non-CPU faults. Bus time-out's, forward progress stalls in multi-processor configurations, evaluation versions of Windows operating systems and other non-hardware fault triggers have been identified that result in an active IERR signal. On occasion, two or more CPU's signal an IERR simultaneously. Experiences in the laboratory have shown that the CPU(s) can be restarted and the IERR often does not re-occur. In the field, the result is that non-faulty CPU's are replaced first and the real source of the IERR is discovered only after multiple IERR events and one or more CPU replacements. The

Intel Cpu Ierr
5.2 on a new Dell 1950 with two quad-core Xeon CPUs. The install completes processor 1 has failed with ierr but during subsequent boots, the machine dies. Screen goes black, the flashing orange hardware failure light on the back of the e1410 system fatal error r610 server comes on, and the front panel LCD displays "E1410 CPU1 IERR E1410 CPU2 IERR" I should note that running CentOS 5.0 runs fine on this server, so it appears to be a problem https://bugs.centos.org/view.php?id=2619 with 5.2. My guess would be faulty Intel microcode or a kernel bug of some sort but I'm not sure how to narrow it down.Additional InformationI noticed a similar bug was reported by a user attempting to run CentOS 4.3 on a Dell 1950: http://bugs.centos.org/view.php?id=2619 I also spotted a similar crash report from a user running OpenSuse 11 on a Dell 1950 (the reporter suspected a connection to https://bugs.centos.org/view.php?id=3034 a Xen bug but I'm not running Xen on my server so this one may not be related): http://forums.opensuse.org/install-boot-login/390004-opensuse-11-x86_64-xen-dell-2950-a.html TagsNo tags attached.Attached Files Relationships Relationships Notes ~0007808 smooge (reporter) 2008-08-07 01:01 The Dell site says the problem may occur from bad CPU's or bad PCI cards. Was the CentOS-5.0 box getting updates regularly? If it was then the system would have been running 5.2 via updates.. Also microcode is not updated until microcode_ctl is run. If the system is dieing before it gets to that.. then it is more likely a hardware fault. ~0007811 steevithak (reporter) 2008-08-07 15:59 No, this is a new Dell 1950. We received it with no OS installed. I initially installed CentOS 5.2. When that resulted in crashes on boot, I tried an old set of CentOS 5.0 CDs. CentOS 5.0 works fine but CentOS 5.2 crashes on boot. I burned a new set of CentOS 5.2 CDs today and will try that. I've also updated the BIOS in the 1950 to the most recent version. I'm not sure how to determine whether the crash occurs before or after microcode_ctl is run. I'll post an update later reporting how the new BIOS + new CDs worked. ~0007812 steevithak (reporter) 2008-08

Solved Dell Poweredge 2950 CPU Bus Error e1410 e1420 Posted on 2012-04-20 Server Hardware 1 Verified Solution 11 Comments fatal error 3,907 Views Last Modified: 2013-07-22 Hello, I just bought a gently used server from a friend's business and it has been working great until this evening when upon setting it up for SQL it HALTED during a database restore with an error CPU BUS Error e1410 and an e1420. I turned off the server. Unplugged the power and started the server back on and e1410 system fatal everything has been fine. Should I be concerned or was this a possible fluke? It seems these CPU Bus errors can be random... Or be caused by the Broadcom Nic drivers which I did use the latest 2011 version and not the originally shipped version when setting up Windows Server Standard 2003 R2... Thank you! 0 Question by:tacshose1 Facebook Twitter LinkedIn Google Best Solution bytacshose1 Well Prime95 caused another error and now the server will not boot, guess I'll return it. Go to Solution 11 Comments Message Author Comment by:tacshose12012-04-20 It seems to almost predictably occur when I use my Seagate USB 2.0 external drive for backing up data is my only thought. If I plug it in after Windows boots it will crash upon heavy transfer. If I plug the drive in before turning the server on, it seems to work fine. This could be coincidental I have only done this about 8 times. Prime95 torture test is running great and no crashes. I would think this would cause a pretty quick hardware problems. So drivers? USB? Real hardware problems I should stress over? 0 Message Accepted Solu

I use the instalation cd that came with the server for the os instalation.I have 3 scsi drives but i have order the server with no raid, it cames with PERC6i i think, so in the step of selecting raid y choose "later" thinking that my server dont have raid.I talk to dell support and the said to me that the dvd drive is defective and causing the hang and later error in lcd panel. the are sending a new one asap. I personally just dont beleive the dvd thing.Anyone have an idea of what is happeningthanks RE: PE2950 server 2003 r2 sp1 installation error NickFerrar (MIS) 25 Jun 08 03:26 Well I'd just go with Dell's advice for now, it does sound odd that error would be DVD drive related but for a tech to say that I'm guessing the code is in their knowledgebase and points to a DVD issue. If a new DVD drive fails to resolve it then they'll try something else - that's the benefit of having support :pIn terms of setup what you're doing sounds fine, even with a RAID system I usually sk
