Hi, I've just ported my binary based ISM to XML based and have also created a few DIMS in Installshield Spring 2012 Premier. Everything builds fine on my machine (which has IS 2012 installed) with IsCmdBld.exe. But on a build machine IsCmdBld.exe simply fails to load any XML based ISM. We do not install IS 2012 on our build machines and even IS standalone version is not installed on build machines. We keep standalone version in a zip file and extract it before building installers. However if standalone build is installed on build machine then it works fine. Below is the error I get in verbose log: [exec] DoUpgradeAndBuildEx [exec] DoUpgradeAndBuildExInternal [exec] DoUpgrade [exec] DoIsmUpgrade [exec] GetNewFileName [exec] spProject->Open Failed [exec] ISDEV : fatal error -6199: Internal build error [exec] Unspecified error It doesn't seem to have anything to do with DIMS. Even if I just have an XML based ISM it fails with above error. Is there a way so that I don't have to install standalone build and am still able to build XML based projects?? Reply
let me post unless I am registered. I don't want to register because this will be the only time I will post. So, I thought why not let Google search land up at this blog entry? That will keep things simple.I got this unusual error and with the help of a friend, figured out that a "special" character had landed into the Installshield ISM file. Instead of "Author's" it had become "AuthorÉs" (I have used Alt+keypad 400 to generate this character in place the actual one I saw!).This was figured out by opening the ISM file in the InstallShield editor while all the time, https://community.flexerasoftware.com/showthread.php?214474-Fatal-error-6199-ISCmdBld-exe-fails-to-build-XML-based-InstallShield-Projects the internal error was showing up in the command line. It turns out that I have seen a lot of people using the ISsaBld.exe to generate the installers. So, the editor said - Line 1549 Col 100 has a special char, while the command line just generated "ISDEV: internal error -6199". Interesting isn't it?There were other errors like the directory where the output was being generated was open by some http://openology.blogspot.com/2009/07/installshield-error-6199-and-other.html process. So, I used SysInternals' ProcessExplorer to figure it out!-raghav Posted by raghav at 2:18 PM Labels: ISDEV InstallShield No comments: Post a Comment Newer Post Older Post Home Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom) ACM ICPC Go for Gold: India Label Cloud Algorithm (26) UVA (13) Beagleboard (11) CodeChef (6) openfiler (6) Brief Notes (4) CP3 (3) OpenRamblings (3) SRM (3) Topcoder (3) spoiler (3) 500points (2) How-To (2) Udacity (2) book (2) inspiration (2) open source (2) solution (2) web python (2) 10976 (1) 12004 (1) 2012 (1) 2013 (1) 233 (1) 250 (1) ACM (1) ADC2 (1) AFI (1) ARM (1) ArsDigita (1) CS (1) Competitive Programming (1) DFS (1) Discrete Math (1) Div1 (1) Div2 (1) EPI (1) Game theory (1) ISDEV InstallShield (1) Leapfrog (1) MustKnow (1) NFS (1) Nim (1) Practice (1) Source code (1) Tag (1) Tag Cloud (1) Touch reading (1) Touchbook (1) Ubuntu (1) Unsolved (1) android (1) foss.in (1) foss.in 2008 (1) information retrieval (1) learning (1) mathematics (1) openhardware (1) sieve or Eratosthenes (1) sorting (1) speed (1) typing (1) videos (1) webdav (1) wget (1) Beagleboard News Loading... Thursday, April 26, 2012. Microsoft Visual C Redistributable Runtime Hell. Microsoft has a nice knack of making problems where there are none. C redistributables/runtimes is one such case. Ever tried debugging a missing/incorrect redistributable (runtime) version issue? I've been unable to locate ANY meaningful description of what is a runtime compared to a redistributable and the million or so versions that show up in Add/Remove programs. Don't take what I describe below as definitive, merely it is my best guess as to what is what, where, and why. Redistributables/runtimes are nothing new in Visual Studio 2010, but I'm limiting my comments to that version simply because it is all that I have the patience to dwadle with at the moment. I'm also assuming x86, although I presume the same versioning applies to x64. If you have the development environment installed, it is likely that you will see BOTH installed. It appears that runtimes are installed as part of IDE service packs, redistributables are installed independently and separately from the IDE. On a non-development machine, you will probably only see redistributables installed (which includes the runtime). Would it kill Microsoft to actually include a meaningful and corresponding SP VERSION in the name? There are SPECIFIC VERSIONS of the redistributable that correspond with SPECIFIC VERSIONS of the compiler that was used to build the actual executable. None of this is apparent in the name, description, or listed version from Add/Remove programs. Built with: Visual Studio 2010. Redistributable name: Microsoft Visual C 2010 x86 Redistributable. Built with: Visual Studio 2010 SP1. Redistributable name: Microsoft Visual C 2010 x86 Redistributable. What I have found is that if your executable was built with VS 2010 SP1 you MUST HAVE the SP1 redistributable installed (40219); the non-SP1 version of the redistributable installed (30319) is insufficient.
