Windows 7: Unable to Uninstall a Program 29 Oct 2009 #1 jsquareg Windows 7 Home Premium (Retail) Full version - With SP1 412 posts Unable to Uninstall a Program I have completely converted both my laptop and desktop from xp to Windows 7 Home Premium. The conversions went smoothly and Easy Transfer certainly helped. However there is one remaining problem I can't seem to solve. On my desktop, I installed Great Games Product's Bridge Baron and included the Learn to Play Bridge feature. After the installation, I decided I did not need or want it so I tried Programs and Features to uninstall it. It would not uninstall. As soon as I chose Uninstall I got a fatal Error: Bad Config Filename. The message header says,"c:\ltpb\runin.dat." There is no ltpb folder on c:. I have tried to reinstall the feature but the Bridge Baron installation cd will not let me do it. I guess because an entry in the registry makes it think it is already installed. It doesn't show up in the start/all programs list. I never tried to run it before I tried to uninstall so I don't know if it really ever got installed completely even though it did appear in start/all programs. Bridge Baron itself runs flawlessly. Can someone give me some guidance on how to remove the Learn to Play Bridge from the list of programs in the Programs and Features list? It just will not go away. Thank you very much. With Windows Explorer, Goto the directory of your program - there should be a http://www.sevenforums.com/software/33435-unable-uninstall-program.html file called Uninstall.exe (or close), double click on that. -- PlayStation Emulators http://www.sp0rk.co.uk/Archive/Issue5/stayingin_psx_emus.php , Sep 1, 2006 #2 Advertisements Brian A. Guest Are you familiar and feel comfortable working within the registry? Do you have a registry checking/cleaning app? If so, use it to do a search on the name, sudo names, developer name and anything else that may be related http://www.pcreview.co.uk/threads/fatal-error.2683019/ with the app and remove any, and only any that you are 100% sure they have to do with the app. Again, before deleting anything be 100% sure any entry you are about to delete is related to the app. On top of that make sure you have a backup in case anything should go wrong. If you do neither or even only one of the two, remember that you have been warned. If in doubt, ask before removing anything that is in even the slightest of question to you. You may need to reboot to Safe Mode or simply reboot to delete any files that may be in use. Delete the contents of the folders: c:\documents and settings\your user name folder\local settings\temp c:\windows\prefetch c:\windows\temp If you know where the app was installing before failure, delete the folder for the app. If not: Click Start > Search > For Files and Folders. Type a related name in the top text input search box. Leave the middle box blank. Select the c: drive or all drives if more than one from the dropdown menu in th

Checked and sure enough my .gitconfig file was empty. Restored the file from a backup and all is well on the farm. –JSWilson Jul 16 '13 at 18:36 But, I did not backup that config file until I saw this answer. Any alternatives for newbies?
