Check php -i | grep ZLIB –ridcully May 4 '11 at 11:58 add a comment| 1 Answer 1 active oldest votes up vote 3 down vote Seems like a problem with this specific build of PHP for Ubuntu. See here for more details They mention un-commenting a line within the distribution which then fixes the problem. I imagine this will be the cause, hopefully following implementing the change above will fix the problem. Alternatively you could install a newer version of PHP if you are able to. share|improve this answer answered May 4 '11 at 11:58 GordyD 3,8901526 Have you managed to resolve this? –GordyD May 4 '11 at 13:55 Finally I've upgraded PHP to the version 5.3.2 and it works well –sami_bk May 4 '11 at 14:01 add a comment| Your Answer draft saved draft discarded Sign up or log in Sign up using Google Sign up using Facebook Sign up using Email and Password Post as a guest Name Email Post as a guest Name Email discard By posting your answer, you agree to the privacy policy and terms of service. I tried bringing in code which worked at home but I got 'undefined function' at work. function_exists('gzuncompress') returns false. I did a bit of checking and found that zlib is required... so I suppose our work servers don't have this installed. If I'm right, how do I add zlib to a PHP installation? What are the chances of fatal error call this function being available on typical PHP installations? I want to use this function in an Open Source project. I initially thought that if the manual said >4.0.1, then anyone with a higher version of php than that would have the function. Last edited by idsky; 09-22-2004 at 08:30 PM. You have to compile it in. If you're running a linux server, it's likely that zlib is already installed. We need some specifics about your setup though... I use OSX myself. I just found the --with-zlib[=DIR] configuartion switch. So if I set that to the zlib location, all the php zlib functions will work? So how do I find out if zlib is installed? If I turn on the --with-zlib switch, will it just work, or do I need to set DIR to a specific file (if so, which file?)
