If webform needs to remain enabled during a major upgrade so that webform_variable_get() is defined, that should be stated in the documentation or readme.txt. If there's https://www.drupal.org/node/2459273 any way of accomplishing something in the install that does not require the module to be enabled, that would be even better. Line 1022 of webform 7.x-4.x webform.install is no where near a call to webform_variable_get(). Further, every call in that file to webform_variable_get() is in a webform_update_N() function, which can only be called when the module is enabled. I also looked in 6.x-23 and webform_variable_get isn't called anywhere from webform.install. Version 7.x-3.23 doesn't even have a line 1022. I'm not sure why there would be a call to an update function when the module isn't enabled. Can you explain in more detail what is happening? And when I put in another file, when I wanted to see what's inside of $metrics , it said undefined function. I omitted it and it returned nothing. What seems to be the problem?
