If I use the absolute path, it works, but all the includes use masm32\includes\ as their incudepath. Is there a way to set \masm32 on the environment variables? assembly visual-studio-2012 masm masm32 share|improve this question edited Dec 8 '12 at 0:22 asked Dec 7 '12 at 23:39 localhost 2251521 What do you mean http://stackoverflow.com/questions/13772748/error1error-a1000-cannot-open-file-masm32-includes-masm32rt-inc by "the absolute path... works"? A path beginning with a backslash is already an absolute path. –Neil Dec 7 '12 at 23:42 I mean that D:\masm32\includes\masm32rt.inc works. –localhost Dec 8 '12 at 0:22 Despite its name, MASM32 isn't part of Visual Studio, but an entirely separate library. –Bo Persson Dec 8 '12 at 12:34 Yes it is, I installed it on D:\masm32 but all the example source code and all the defalt includes .inc reference the folder as \masm32, but then I get that error connot open file. So I guess something isn't configured correctly –localhost Dec 8 '12 at 13:29 add a comment| 1 Answer 1 active oldest votes up vote 0 down vote accepted MASM32 is NOT part of Visual Studio, MASM is. If you have MASM32 installed on one drive, but your projects/sources are on another drive, how can a relative path work???? i.e. include masm32\includes If this is the case, then you have to use absolute paths, i.e. D:\masm32\includes\masm32rt.inc I do not use VS, but it should have an option to set the include path, which it will then pass this path to the command line of ml to search for includes. share|improve this answer answered Dec 8 '12 at 16:26 Gunner 4,31721331

I'm currently using MASM32 as my assembler and I know I'm using code meant for MASM because it uses the MASM library's but when I fatal error go to "project" on the menu bar and then select "Build all" then the program attempts to assemble but then gives me the following error... MASM : fatal error A1000: cannot open file: C:\testing.asmI'm currently working on windows vista with duel Intel pentium E2220 CPU's, I've also read up on all of the topics in this form area (all 19 pages ) but haven't found anything that's really helped yet. Here's one of the sample codes I've tried: .386 .model fatal error a1000 flat, stdcall option casemap:none include \masm32\include\windows.inc include \masm32\include\kernel32.inc include \masm32\include\user32.inc includelib \masm32\lib\kernel32.lib includelib \masm32\lib\user32.lib .data msgboxcaption db "m101's Assembly Tutorial",0 msgboxtext db "First program, congrats!",0 .code start: invoke MessageBox, NULL, addr msgboxtext, addr msgboxcaption, MB_OK invoke ExitProcess, NULL end start Thanks for your time! Foxman New Member Group: Members Posts: 7 Member No.: 18299 Joined: 6-February 09 I've continued looking up reasons for this problem and found when I try and compile a program in C++ it does the same thing, is this a vista problem? it can't seem to find any of the files that need to be compiled. Thanks for your help shoorick Extremely Active Member Group: Admins Posts: 2331 Member No.: 160 Joined: 22-June 04 due to error message: "cannot open file: C:\testing.asm" - it is not too important what your file consists, but instead where it is located, what is name of it and how do you call masm (from IDE, with batch, make etc.)? do you have rights to access files on c:\ ? shoorick Extremely Active Member Group: Admins Posts: 2331 Member No.: 160 Joined: 22-June 04 here is your example built with winasm studio: as it already has winasm studio project file it will be easy to open it with this IDE (if you wish to try it sinse you are here)regards!
