I have gotten several errors of the form: NMAKE : fatal error U1077: '(function name/some filepath.exe)' : return code '0x(some number)' Searching around I found this enlightening description of the error message from microsoft, where the only information is how to suppress it not what it means or how to fix it. I was hoping to understand what these error codes are saying (as a start to fixing what is causing http://stackoverflow.com/questions/33898217/nmake-fatal-error-u1077-return-codes them), but so far the only explanation of a error code that I have found was for return code '0xc0000135' which tells the user that Nmake cannot find the compiler. That was however not one of the error codes that I was encountering. I am encountering return code '0x1, return code '0x450', and return code '0x2'. I have found some explanations as to how to try to start to fix these (0x1, 0x450, 0x2), but nothing on what the error codes are supposed to be telling me. As this information does not seem to be collected anywhere that I am able to find and my searching indicates they are somewhat common errors, I was hoping to collect what these error codes are saying. (Other codes that seemed common while searching '0x458', '0x460', and there are probably others) Edit 2/4: I've now also seen 0x1f. Searching around and from my experience this one seems to come looking like: NMAKE : fatal error U1077: '"C:\Program Files\Microsoft SDKs\Windows\v7.0A\bin\mt.exe"' : return code '0x1f' visual-studio compiler-errors fatal-error nmake return-code share|improve this question edited Feb 4 at 20:09 asked Nov 24 '15 at 15:55 Chris 18312 add a comment| active oldest votes Know someone who can answer? I have the correct System Target File selected, the Solver is selected as Fixed-Step Discrete, and I ran the mex -setup to select the Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Express compiler on my PC. Once I attempt to build, I get the following:Microsoft (R) Program Maintenance Utility Version 10.00.30319.01 Copyright (C) Microsoft Corporation. Is your PATH environment variable set up correctly? > NMAKE : fatal error U1077: '"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio > 9.0\VC\bin\nmake.exe"' : return code '0x2' Exit status "2" from nmake is probably just a result of the compiler exiting abnormally.
