If this does not clear the message or remedy the oki fatal error 980 reset problem, check to see if your printer is on a power strip (or not plugged directly into the wall). For testing purposes, be sure the printer is plugged directly into the wall. Often, the issue is power-related. NOTE: If you see a series of letters and numbers(scrolling across the display) after the 3-digit error code, be sure to write these down also and report them when call or emailing Customer Support.

You will need to either get a technician in to fix it, or get creative like I did and order the part# 43589701 (Gear Coupling A Kit) and then you will have to file out the frame so you can pull the gear assembly out without having to pull the whole printer apart (which is apparently what the techs have to do) Be very careful not to damage any wires while filing the frame hole bigger. Then it is pretty simple to get the gear assembly out and the new one in. This probably cost me like $30 dollars for 2 of these parts and guess what, it broke a second time on me 6

This is not the typical syntax of the error message. Usually it looks like "Fatal Error: 121" (three numeric digits). =^..^= If you'd like a serious answer to your request: 1) demonstrate that you've read the manual 2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it. 3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code. 4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code. blackcat: Master Of The Obvious =^..^= Reply With Quote 02-11-2009 #3 RSCA View Profile View Forum Posts Private Message Senior Tech 100+ Posts Join Date Jul 2008 Posts 102 Post Thanks / Like Thanks (Given) 0 Thanks (Received) 0 Likes (Given) 0 Likes (Received) 0 Dislikes (Given) 0 Dislikes (Received) 0 Rep Power 18 I questioned this myself when the customer reported it. I went on site and confirmed that this is exactly the display. I have used other resources that took me all the way to Oki tech support and they don't know what this is either. My next step is to start removing item (network card, RAM, whatever) one at a time to see what happens. I will let you know if I find anything.
