This post was written by eli on July 27, 2011 Posted Under: PCI express Introduction The PCI Express standard requires an error detection and retransmit mechanism, which ensures that the TLP packets indeed arrive correctly. The need for reliable communication on a system bus is obvious, but this mechanism also sweeps problems under the carpet: If data packets arrive faulty or are lost in the lower layers, nobody will practically notice this. While error reporting mechanisms exist in the hardware level, there is no mechanism to i

Solved Dell R710 fatal error LCD E171F PCIe Fatal Error Posted on 2013-07-22 Operating Systems Server Hardware 2 Verified Solutions 8 Comments 14,012 Views Last Modified: 2013-07-24 I have a Dell R710 Server that indicates "E171F PCIe Fatal Error on Bus 0 Device 4 Function 0" flashing across the LCD. How do I determine which expansion card is the bus fatal error issue without powering down the server? I look at Server Manager which shows 4 PCI slots but also indicates "Not Occupied". Does this mean that the system is reporting on a slot being bad and not necessarily an expansion card? I have not been successful locating a solution that does not require powering the server down. Any assistance would be appreciated. 0 Question by:Adell3920 Facebook Twitter LinkedIn Google LVL 32 Active 1 day ago Best Solution byPowerEdgeTech It is unlikely you will resolve this without powering down.
