Year of Manufacture:2000 Transmission Type:Auto Car Body Type:Coupe Join Date May 2010 Location London Posts 10 Thanks 1 Thanked 0 Times in 0 Posts 13-12-2013, 23:50 My uncle just purchased a 55reg 320i saloon auto gearbox yesterday from a dealer. The car has covered 59,000 miles seems to be in mint condition with only one owner from new and full service history. I have driven it and it drives very very well. However...Oil leak Before purchasing we valvetronic motor problem did notice some traces of oil leak in the engine bay before purchasing but still went ahead after gaining a bit of comfort by doing a quick google search. Seems oil leak is common with the E90 series and problem is easily fixed.Garage So we decided to take car to local independent specialist (Brown Motor Works London) for check up today. Their Diagnostic reading came up with a list of fault codes. The full list is attached to this thread. The two worrying codes are: 2A6F - Valvetronic, minimum lift exceeded 2A70 - Valvetronic, plausibility: sporadic current fluctuations They also confirmed oil leak and reported the following: Vanos solanoid seals leaking Rocker shaft seal leaking Engine vacuum pump and sump gasket leaking PAS (coil pipe) leaking fluid Brake discs and pads worn (not too worried about this as it is normal)Help The mechanic advised my uncle to pick up the car and he'll be in touch next week as he has to investigate the possible causes of the Valvetronic fault codes before knowing what to do next. He did say that it might be a timing chain issue. Can someone please shed some light on these codes? What could possible be wrong? What are the fixes? Is it possible that the fault codes are related to the leaks? I have a done a search and found thi

It could literally be anything zaleonardz12-11-2014, 08:18 PM +1 It could literally be anything. So diagnostics is your only answer, unless you want to take out about 15k and replace every single sensor until you http://www.bmwfanatics.co.za/archive/index.php?thread-61933.html find the faulty one, thats not a good way to go. Most likely, you are going to find that its either a cam sensor (there is 2), wont be crank sensor as car would not run, or it could be 02's Even something as silly as a throttle position sensor could cause the issue, but its more then likely the computer either does not know cam angles or something to that extent. If it is fine tomorrow morning, but you have the issue during the day, its heat related, Diagnostics bud, only option. Parts Required: Valvetronic motor gasket, valvetronic motor Hot Tip: Work with a cool engine. Performance Gain: Removal for access to other components and remedy oil leaks from Valvetronic motor gasket Complementary Modification: Replace seal for motor Need to buy parts for this project?Click here to order! The Valvetronic motor is used on BMW E90 models with a normally-aspirated engine. It is responsible for actuating an eccentric shaft that adjusts intake valve lift. The motor itself is pretty reliable and does not fail too often. However, you will have to remove it for other engine repairs and the gasket that seals the mounting surface of the Valvetronic motor fails and leaks oil. When repairs are performed on the Valvetronic assembly, the limit stops have to be relearned. You will need access to a BMW scan tool to do this procedure. The limit stops are the mechanical limit stop, end to end of rotation of the eccentric shaft. The
