How is this related to MAF meter. Do both need to be replaced? Share this conversation Expert: Martin replied3 years ago. Hi, my name is XXXXX XXXXX I am at your service to assist with your VW problems. Welcome to just Answer. The problem might emanate http://www.justanswer.com/vw-volkswagen/7lccj-vw-passat-vw-fault-code-17524-relates-02-sensor.html from the MAF sensor, as the function of this meter is to assess the volume, air temperature and air flow. These sensors have a tendency to become dirty over a period of time and can then send false information to the computer (ECM). This, in turn, can cause the ECM to over-fuel the engine and cause the fault code which the 02 sensor is picking up. These sensors become faulty as a result of the over-fueling taking place.I suggest the you remove the MAF sensor and clean it with medicinal alcohol and an earbud, being mindful of the sensitive little plates in the crevasses. In most cases this solves the problem but, in the event it does not you would firstly have to replace the 02 sensor. If that still does not work replace the MAF sensor as well.I hope this resolves your problem but should you require further assistance do not hesitate to ask.Regards, Martin. Could the faulty thermostat have bust the lambda sensor if the engine has been running too hot ? I would be gratefull for any information. Since they're lambda sensor related, I reckon somethings been not quite right since the recent changes to the car (a milltek from turbo back was put on the car) Question is... what do I look for on the car to check if its actually dead or any VAGCOM procedures to test the sensor?
