I just upgraded to 8.10 using the Synaptic Package Manager. I'm getting the following error when I boot with a disk in the CD/DVD drive. end_request: I/O error, dev sr0, sector 216176 Buffer I/O error on device sr0, logical block 54044 The following is an excerpt from kern.log: Nov 2 07:15:00 Melchior kernel: [ 27.942989] sr 4:0:0:0: [sr0] Sense Key : Medium Error [current] Nov 2 07:15:00 Melchior kernel: [ 27.942991] sr 4:0:0:0: [sr0] Add. The error message stops when I eject the CD. I do not get the error message at all when I boot with an empty CD/DVD drive. However, the drive works after Ubuntu is loaded. I can read CDs and DVDs just fine. I did not see this error in 8.04. a) Is anyone else having this issue? b) How can I resolve this issue? System: MB:

It has "Intel G41 chipset" with "Intel Core2duo processor", 4GB DDR2 RAM. I want to install Ubuntu 12.04 alongside Windows 7. I downloaded "ubuntu-12.04-desktop-i386.iso" http://askubuntu.com/questions/157092/i-cant-install-ubuntu-12-04-on-my-desktop file and burn it on to a CD. Then I inserted in it on my drive and reboot my desktop. Installation started, but after passing almost half an hour, installation stopped. It showed error lines like this: 2816.493003 end_request I/O error, dev sr0, sector 1291668 When installation stopped, I re-inserted the CD and ran wubi.exe from Windows, then tried "help me boot from CD" option, but after 3-4 mins, an error message popped up saying "permission denied". I also tried the option described in here, but same messages show every time. What should I do to install Ubuntu now? 12.04 installation wubi share|improve this question edited Jun 28 '12 at 10:38 Eliah Kagan 56k15162255 asked Jun 28 '12 at 10:23 Pratyay 62 add a comment| 3 Answers 3 active oldest votes up vote 2 down vote I had the same problem and I solved it this way: as far as the boot helper is concerned, I removed the failed helper installation and in the BIOS I set boot priority to cd errors during installation were solved by burning the same iso on another CD after

He probado con Ubuntu, Guadalinex, Xubuntu... Ninguna me deja instalar. Al arrancar el CD lIve aparece el siguiente mensaje: [136.270773] end_request I/O error, dev sr0, sector 1413060 [136.270855] buffer i/o error on device sr0 logical bloc 353265 .... ... .... ... ..
