Hi, I'm building a tool in Delphi to view history log files http://www.delphipages.com/forum/showthread.php?t=47739 of another program. There's no problem when I open such files using an untyped file variable. But since I want to parse the history one line at a time, I really want to open them as 'textfile'. But when I https://windowsforum.com/threads/i-o-error-32.82706/ do so, an I/O error 32 occurs on the statement "Reset(F)" I've searched the help pages and on the internet, but can't find anything about what this error means. At the moment, I'm using this trick to copy the entire i/o error file using the untyped file variable, and then open the copy as textfile. But since the files can become really big and I simply want to know what's happening, I'd like to fix the problem more elegantly Other effects on the history files: DeleteFile(..) results in False when the history file is opened by the other program (sounds logical), however I can open the file and truncate it at the first byte But then, next time I try to open i/o error 32 it, my viewer crashes (application error)... I know it's not very nice to truncate an open file, probably the other program doesn't even know it happened, and thus writes at the wrong locations... In conclusion: this is my question: what does "I/O error 32" mean? Kind regards, Sebastian Groeneveld Dracula View Public Profile Send a private message to Dracula Visit Dracula's homepage! IO error 32 means "sharing violation" - the file you're trying to open is already open, either you forgot the closefile earlier, or a second application is using it. Hi there, I strongly suggest you change from the "old" Assign file method to TFileStreams. They are by factors faster and you can do everything you need with them as easy as with a File variable. This is an example how to use TFileStreams: var DebugLog: TFileStream; procedure TPowerTransForm.CreateDebugLog; var year, month, day: Word; var FileName: String; begin DecodeDate(Now, year, month, day); FileName := ExtractFilePath(Application.ExeName) + 'Debug\'; MkDirEx(FileName); FileName := FileName + Format('%4.4d%2.2d%2.2d.log', [year, month, day]); if (FileExists(FileName)) then begin DebugLog := TFileStream.Create(FileName, fmOpenReadWrite or fm

Discussion in 'Windows 7 Help and Support' started by trtthesickness, Jul 12, 2012. trtthesickness New MemberJoined:Jun 11, 2012Messages:6Likes Received:0 For some reason, at random, a little information box will pop up, saying I/O Error 32, and all I can do is press 'OK'. But if I don't, it pops up with the box multiple times and doesn't stop. Could anyone tell me what could possibly be causing this? It's starting to get annoying. Thank you! #1 trtthesickness, Jul 12, 2012 Saltgrass Excellent Member Microsoft Community ContributorJoined:Oct 16, 2009Messages:15,157Likes Received:393 Always a chance some malware or virus is at work. Have you scanned lately and what did you use? If not, do you have some device, or network location your system is trying to access or some program that is running? #2 Saltgrass, Jul 12, 2012 trtthesickness New MemberJoined:Jun 11, 2012Messages:6Likes Received:0 I actually recently checked my system for viruses/malware and it said it came up with nothing. I doubt it's trying to access anything, but it could be a program, just have no idea what program it might be. EDIT: I used AVG, btw. #3 trtthesickness, Jul 12, 2012 Last edited: Jul 12, 2012 Pauli Extraordinary Member Premium SupporterJoined:Mar 1, 2012Messages:2,499Likes Received:211 It would seem that you try to pick a file with one application that is reserved by anothe
