I solved it by setting the generel FileMode variable like this: Procedure WriteFile(FileName: String); var F: File of text; Begin AssignFile(F,FileName); //Valid FileMode values are: //0 Read only //1 Write only //2 Read/Write FileMode:= 2; Reset(F); Write(F,'Hello World'); CloseFile(F); End; The big problem is, that Delphi got severel levels of filehandling, and mixing them, can make influence to previous written and (almost) perfect working code. :-) Regards Williams 0 Message Author Comment by:asleszynski1998-04-03 i/o error 183 really is "Directory already exists". After this, it works like expected. This behaviour is independent from the http://stackoverflow.com/questions/8802440/tdirectorylistbox-i-o-error-183-on-first-selection Form I place the Box in, the drive and many other settings I tried to change. But when I create a new application and place a TDirectoryListBox in there it works without problems. I think its very strange since I/O Error 183 is the ERROR_ALREADY_EXISTS which should not happend with a TDirectoryListBox. I am using Delphi 2007. Can someone tell me why this is happening and how to resolve the issue? delphi debugging file-io listbox error-code share|improve this question edited Mar 7 '14 at 19:50 Paul Sweatte 14.8k468161 asked Jan 10 '12 at 11:20 Marks 1,63852137 1 If it works in a new app, then start stripping things out of your existing app until it works. That should tell you what is causing it. –Marjan Venema Jan 10 '12 at 12:13 1 TDirectoryListBox is really old. Does it have a DirLabel or FileList hooked up to it? There must be something different in the problem application that's not in the new application. –Mike W Jan 10 '12 at 12:14 1 Detach any eve

I am trying to use the following code to save items from a listview to a text file on the close of a form: var x: integer; FavFile: TextFile; fav: String; begin fav:=getcurrentdir()+'\config\favorites.txt'; try AssignFile(FavFile, fav); ReWrite(FavFile); for x:=0 to listview1.items.count-1 do begin Writeln(FavFile,listview1.items[x].caption); Flush(FavFile); end; finally CloseFile(FavFile); end; end; The problem is that when it actually fires up I get an I/O Error 183. Then if I try to close the program again everything works fine. I have looked up the I/O errors but can't find error 183.
