I would try and download the ubuntu iso again, reinstall, and see if that works. This issue has happened to me before too. share|improve this answer answered Jun 9 '13 at 9:16 krishnab 1131110 add a comment| Your Answer draft saved draft discarded Sign up or log in Sign up using Google Sign up using Facebook Sign up using Email and Password Post as a guest Name Email Post as a guest Name Email discard By posting your answer, you agree to the privacy policy and terms of service. I'v tried to install ubuntu with the Live CD for 8.04 and 8.04.1 (both i386) on my SATA2 drive and I always get the Message: ------- The installer encountered an error copying files to the hard disk: [Errno 5] Input/output error This particular error is often due to a faulty CD/DVD disk or drive, or a faulty hard disk. Everything seemed to be allright, but this message always occured - around 69%-73%. ------- It seems to have no effect wether I choose EXT3, ReiserF
