They look all broken. They can read the files on CDs but when I burn a cd it seem that the burning was gone well, but when I try to md5 the media: md5sum /dev/sr0 Linux sometimes give me the following error: Input/Output error Or sometime it simply give me a wrong md5. If I make a: dd if=/dev/sr0 > cicco.iso the two images (the original one and the burned one) have different size. http://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/89225/strange-problems-on-cd-rom-writers For example the openbsd install cd is: -rw-r--r--. 1 root root 222334976 2 set 17.40 cicco.iso -rw-rw-r--. 1 argento argento 222330880 27 ago 12.55 install53.iso the cicco is the burned iso (dd) and the install53 is the original. If I burn the iso with an other pc it works well. I mean the cd and the image gave me the same md5 on my pc with the broken burner. My opinion is that I have a virus that have flashed the firmware with corrupted one. That's really strange that all 5 burnera are all broken. Also I am sure that when I bought the lastone it was working well for the first 1 or 2 weeks. If u look the iso images you see that cicco.iso is much larger than the original. When I insert it into the drive, it does not mount. I know my CD-ROM works. How do I mount the CD within a terminal? This is what I see when I attempt a mount: *sudo mount /dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom/ mount: /dev/sr0 is write-protected, mounting read-only Can only open '/dev/sr0' as read-only NTFS signature is missing. Failed to mount '/dev/sr0': Invalid argument The device '/dev/sr0' doesn't seem to have a valid NTFS. Maybe the wrong device is used? Or the whole disk instead of a partition (e.g. /dev/sda, not /dev/sda1)? Or the other way around?* Here is the dmesg: *[ 4726.219094] sr 4:0:0:0: [sr0] tag#14 Sense Key : Hardware Error [current] [ 4726.219096] sr 4:0:0:0: [sr0] tag#14 Add. CD+R vs. CD-R. It's also possible that the CD drive is defective. How do you know it works? Does it work with other discs? –Zacharee1 Mar 27 at 16:09 add a comment| 1 Answer 1 active oldest votes up vote 2 down vote Sorry. I finally found the answer on my own. This is what I used: sudo mount -t iso9660 /dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom/ sh
