Lotus Notes Archive Error File Truncated
notes error; trunctated Technote (troubleshooting) Problem You attempt to archive any email message to one or more archive file and receive a "File truncated - file may have been damaged" error message. Symptom You are able access any of the archive files without issue and open archived messages. The error is generated only when you attempt to actually archive documents to one of the archive files. The error happens regardless of which archive file is used. The error also occurs if you create a new archive file and attempt to archive documents to it Cause In this case a corrupted archive log file was the cause of the problem Diagnosing the problem - Disable Archive logging (Actions > Archive > Settings > Advanced > uncheck "Log all archiving activity to a log application) and try to archive again. - If successful, this indicates there is a problem with the log file. Resolving the problem Delete the archive log, which it is located in the ..\data\archive\ directory by default. Re-enable logging if desired, and the log file will be recreated. Notes: Resolving "File truncated - file may have been damaged" errors Published 29/01/2009 By Aleksander Nordgarden-Rødner The error message "File truncated - file may have been damaged" is most often seen https://www.razumny.no/2009/01/lotus-notes-resolving-file-truncated-file-may-have-been-damaged-errors/ server-side, but every once in a while it will turn up on http://www.techrepublic.com/forums/discussions/corrupted-nsf-file/ client computers, especially where Notes is installed on a network share (not a good idea) and synchronised to the local machine through offline folders. I have to say, this is one of the clearer error messages Notes has to offer. It basically means that there is a corrupt file. The lotus notes file I've seen it happen to the most is desktop6.ndk. What this means is that unless there's another copy of it, you lose all the links in your dashboard. In my opinion, the simplest way to resolve the problem is replace the faulty file, either by copying in a (non-corrupted) copy of it, or by deleting it altogether, and letting Notes replace the lotus notes archive file automatically.
