Lotus Notes Error Context Toolbar Not Found
"Context toolbar not found. Bookmark design needs update" Published 21/09/2009 By Aleksander Nordgarden-Rødner A colleague of mine asked me about an error message a user of his got while in Lotus Notes. The error message stated that Context toolbar not found. Bookmark design needs update. The solution is pretty straight forward, and even indicated by the error message. By deleting the file called Bookmark.nsf and restarting Notes, Notes creates a new Bookmark.nsf file which solved the problem. The error is "Context toolbar not found. Bookmark design needs update." I have updated the bookmark file with the template supplied with the http://www-10.lotus.com/ldd/nd6forum.nsf/d6091795dfaa5b1185256a7a0048a2d0/f312169b52a9b31b85256c4b0057023e?OpenDocument Notes client, but it did not fix the problem. I finally deleted the bookmark.nsf file and allowed it to be recreated, which worked. I saw in the beta forum that I should update the template, and then go into the toolbar preferences and to check "restore defaults". (From http://www-10.lotus.com/ldd/nfr6forum.nsf/55c38d716d632d9b8525689b005ba1c0/98ca3edfb01143d985256bfa00549f34?OpenDocument). I'll try that next time, but I wanted to post in case others had the same problem. Return to top Error- "Context toolbar not found. ... (Timothy A. Day 7.Oct.02) . . come across an error message that looks exactly same as given below? "Context toolbar not found." Well, I have faced the same kind of error message while working with Lotus Notes http://lotus-notes-recovery.blogspot.com/2012/07/how-did-i-fix-context-toolbar-not-found.html e-mail client. Presence of this error message have made the important data of my Lotus Notes e-mail client inaccessible for me. I was not able to access the data contained within a Lotus Notes e-mail client. http://itlife.escrito.info/2007/01/30/context-toolbar-not-found/ The situation was quite annoying as the error message appears every time whenever I used to work with Lotus Notes application. I was quite upset after seeing such kind of behavior. But, I did not lose hope. lotus notes I tried to find out the cause and solution in order to overcome such problem. Therefore, I started surfing the Internet and was successful to found cause and solution to this problem. Causes: On searching, I came to know that above error message is caused if a predefined context sensitive toolbar is absent in the outline in bookmark.nsf where toolbar data is saved. This recognizes a damaged bookmark database. Solution: To solve this lotus notes error issue, I manually tried to change the design of your local bookmark.nsf file, that helps to restore the toolbar outline. For doing the same, I have selected the Bookmarks icon on the Notes workspace. Then, choose File > Database > Replace Design. From the dialog box named as Replace Design that appeared I have choosen the checkbox named as "Show Advanced Templates" and the Bookmarks template appeared in the box above. I had select it and chosen the Replace button. I also came across a fact that such error or variants can also occur when the Bookmark.nsf includes custom design elements that were flagged to avoid refreshing or replacing. In order to solve it, I have closed the Notes client and edit the notes.ini file. Place the entry, "BookmarkDesignReplaced=0", and reset 0 to 1for its value. However, still I did not get any results. But, I did not lose hope. As, I was aware about the fact that database corruption may also be the reason. So, in order to handle the corruption of Lotus Notes database, I made a search on Internet for solution. I was lucky that I have found a large number of third party Lotus Notes repair tools. 30, 2007 This is a headache. Since the upgrade, I've been receiving weird errors reported by users. First it was "Unable to execute specified command." A new database was created and the bookmark pointed to it, it's working fine. Now it's "Context toolbar not found. Bookmark needs design update." Apparently, this latest error is caused by a renamed user that is not regconised. The resolution can be found here. A rename of the bookmark.nsf usually does the trick. I'm just not sure if a clean install of the Lotus Notes client would have solved the problem. However, there might be power users around who make use of the workspace and they might be raising a big ruckus once they see empty workspace. 😐 It's hard to please everyone. You may also like...
