The IsOpen property will tell you whether the database is open. See the description of IsOpen http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21203997 for a list of properties that are available when the database is not open. If you get the NotesDatabase handle from a NotesDBDirectory object or from NotesSession.AddressBooks, it is not open until you call the Open method on it. But if you get the object in another way, for instance using New NotesDatabase, the database is normally opened at the same time. So, the cause of the problem is the line of code that creates the NotesDatabase object. However, the http://www-10.lotus.com/ldd/nd6forum.nsf/DateAllFlatweb/b028fc9a1cddaa038525745a0049e508?OpenDocument error doesn't occur until later on, when you try to use the object in a way that requires it to be open. Dim dbLookup As New NotesDatabase(dbThis.Server, "resc\lookup.nsf") ' problem here: database doesn't exist. Set view = dbLookup.GetView("Keywords") ' error occurs here. Possible causes of the problem are: There is no such database at the path you specified. The ID running the code doesn't have access to open the database. The database file is damaged somehow and can't be opened. ... Use the LotusScript debugger, or insert some debugging output statements, to see the exact values of the strings you're passing as arguments. Make sure they have the values you expect. If the values are correct, try to open the application manually, from the Notes client menus, using the exact same server name, filepath and Notes userID as was used by the code. The resulting error message should tell the cause of the failure. Return to top Database has not been open yet (B Dali 31.May.08) . . Database has not been opened yet - ... database, calendaring, and more within a single interface. Many people have been using Lotus Notes as an email system. However, alike many other email systems and application suites, Lotus Notes has never been far off from errors of several types. Go through the following for details: Error messages not only report that particular system is having issues; they also demand to be fixed at the earliest in order to prevent further damage to the system. The same is applicable to Lotus Notes/Domino, as it has been error prone, and therefore needs proper care as well as fixes for the errors if they appear. Mentioned below are some errors that many of the Lotus Notes users have come across. Along with the errors, I have mentioned their respective fixes that you must go through, in order to be able to fix them manually if you too face them. Error: “Your current ID does not specify an Internet certificate for signing.” The aforementioned error usually comes across when you specify default setting for signing emails, and it has been an issue in Lotus Notes for many years. To fix this error, you must have the ‘Public Key Infrastructure’ (generally called PKI) for your Lotus Notes ID, as your client requires it to sign emails before sending them to other Lotus Notes users. Lotus Notes keys do not work when you send emails over the Internet, as x.509 certificate is all that you need to have integrated with the Lotus Notes ID. If the x.509 certificate is not available, Lotus Notes client throws this error. Fixing this error requires default message signing settings changed or the user must be able to acknowledge the dialog box appearing. Lotus Notes 8 migration error: “Database has not been opened yet.” In the recent versions, IBM added a functionality to select and unselect particular attachments after migration. The aforementioned error appears when the email attachments do not open on some machines after upgrading the Lotus Notes version. The prime cause of the error as reported is the LotusScript code that introduces an invalid database object
