"Error encountered retriving data" error in some web clients! Posted on 2004-01-09 Lotus IBM 1 Verified Solution 26 Comments 4,450 Views Last Modified: 2013-12-18 I'm having trouble lotus notes with some clients opening webmail, some clients recieve the error "Error encountered retrieving data. Click the browser's Refresh button to reload the page." when opening the inbox, however the user can open some other views. I've tried everything I can think of, the client is an Windows 2000 machine with all the latest service pack and fixes and the latest Internet Explorer. I've found 2 documents on www.lotus.com/support, one talks lotus notes error about that the issue occurs when using HTTP 1.0 over SSL. The other talks about a Microsoft fix, Q818043, which is installed.. I've compared 2 machines, side by side, one working, the other not, and found nothing different in for example zone settings, IE options, etc... Can anyone help me ? regards, Fletchs 0 Question by:Fletchs Facebook Twitter LinkedIn Google LVL 1 Best Solution bycarlosn I ran into this thread when I did a google search on the same problem. The IBM bug site talked about HTTP 1.0 over SSL, and then HemanthaKumar mentioned HTTP 1.1, etc. On a whim I went to Internet Go to Solution 23 Comments LVL 46 Overall: Level 46 Lotus IBM 44 Message Active today Expert Comment by:Sjef Bosman2004-01-09 Just a few questions to start with: Server Domino version? Both clients exactly identical? What happens if users switch places, travels the error with the user or not? What message you find in the log-file of the server? What rights do both users have on the mail-files? 0 LVL 15 Overall: Level 15 Lotus IBM 15 Message Expert Comment by:Bozzie42004-01-09 I suppose you are talking about iNotes ? Completely clearing the browser cache may help solve this problem. cheers, Tom 0 LVL 31 Overall:

How could it be causing a syntax error? javascript syntax-error illegal-characters share|improve this question edited Jun 9 '15 at 20:42 Fernando 5341517 asked Oct 4 '12 at 3:23 bfavaretto 57.1k1268107 9 For future readers: if you encountered this error when using Vagrant - this answer also can be helpful: stackoverflow.com/questions/9479117/… –OZ_ Oct 9 '13 at 6:39 In the event that you are experiencing this in WordPress, enqueue the scripts from functions.php. I had a specific template where I was calling for the JS directly from the template. Switching to a conditional enqueue in either wp_head or wp_footer resolved this. –Alpesh Shah Oct 8 '14 at 20:44 6 Moderator's Note: I deleted a bunch of answers here that don't actually answer the question. This is not, I repeat not, a place to list every possible thing you can do in JavaScript that will result in this error. The question has a very specific circumstance that does not involve any of those scenarios, and all those examples simply do not answer the question. –animuson♦ Oct 13 '14 at 1:03 2 Wow, the SO police had a field day with this question. Luckily, some of the relevant information is still visible in the deleted answers. –cdonner Feb 10 '15 at 20:03 add a comment| 10 Answers 10 active oldest votes up vote 447 down vote accepted The error When code is parsed by the JavaScript interpreter, it gets broken into pieces called "tokens". When a token cannot be classified into one of the four basic token types, it gets labelled "ILLEGAL" on most implementations, and this error is thrown. The same error is raised if, for example, you try to run a js file with a rogue @ character, a misplaced curly brace, bracket, "smart quotes", single quotes not enclosed properly (e.g. this.run('dev1)) and so on.
