Following Follow Lotus Notes error messages Hi, Has anyone of you encountered this issue: When I try to access the location lotus notes cannot connect to server document of the user from the "Managed Locations" it directly shows the Basics, Servers and so on as if there's no existing location document created. But there is. The client version is 8.5; the Home, Offline, Travel and Online location documents cannot be seen. I tried accessing it as well on the lower right portion of the screen for the shorcut, but the only display is "Edit Locations" and then once clicked it will

direct me to the blank location document. I can access the email without problem but there were times (sporadically) that the user's client automatically closes after an error pops-up (unfortunately, I don't have the error message since I don't know how to recreate the error and the user wasn't able to take note of it) Is there any other way to resolve this issue without reinstalling Lotus Notes? Based on the description it sounds like the users name.nsf design is having some issues. The first thing I would do is make a back up copy of names.nsf and then try the following in this order, see if each step resolves the issue, if not, move to the next step: Replace the design of names.nsf using the Personal address book template (pernames.ntf). Try running fixup -F and upd

"Remote system no longer responding." If you ping the server or IP address, you see that basic connectivity is present over TCP/IP. In one particular http://itknowledgeexchange.techtarget.com/itanswers/missing-location-document/ case, the Domino server's TCP/IP address had just been changed and even under these circumstances, the new TCP/IP address resolved correctly. It appears as if Notes is caching old and obsolete IP addresses. Answer You can work around this issue as follows: 1. Create a new Location document in the local names.nsf. (Steps to create a Location document). This forces Notes to not use the cached "last known good http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21100207 address" which is kept even with a reboot. 2. Create a formula agent to clear the fields in the Location document, per the steps listed here. Set the formula's action to the following: FIELD $SavedAddresses := ""; FIELD $SavedPorts := ""; FIELD $SavedServers := ""; FIELD $SavedDate := ""; FIELD $SavedTriedDate := ""; NOTE: For testing purposes, you can insert the following parameter in the notes.ini file: dont_use_remembered_addresses=1 This parameter is read by the Notes client ONLY during startup. Its purpose is to test server searches. The parameter does not clear the address cache and is not designed to do so. It causes Notes to not load remembered paths stored in the cache. Use this for testing purposes only since it is not a permanent solution to these errors. Related information Where are Server Addresses Cached in Notes and Domino? How can you determine root cause? Diagnosing the problem Other related error are: Unable to connect to [servername] The server is not responding. The server may be down or you may be experiencing network problems. Contact your system administrator if this problem persists. The remote lotus notes server is not a known TCP/IP host. Resolving the problem This error is a generic error message, which may be caused by a variety of underlying issues (such as, network issues, client settings and/or issues, 3rd party software, server related, etc). Hence, there isn't a one solution solve all. Some suggested Notes Client settings to check and troubleshooting steps unable to find are included below: Check the Notes status bar to see what Location is selected. You may have selected an Offline location (Island, in earlier versions), which is configured to not use the network. . Select Edit Locations... to verify Servers (Home/Mail server) and Mail (Mail file location and Mail file filename) are correct. This information can be provided by your Domino Administrator. If there are multiple Domino servers on your environment, try accessing a different server. Go to File > Open > IBM Notes Application > Enter a different server (or if multiple servers are listed on the drop down, select a different server). This may help confirm if the issue is server specific. If the issue only occurs with a particular server, follow up with the Domino Administrator or Help Desk to ensure it is up and running. Note: To get your Domino server name, go to File > Preferences > Locations > Online/Office(Network)/or location document you generally use > Edit > Servers tab > Home/Mail Server field. Generally, this field includes the Hierarchica
