Running on Notes client 8.0.2 or 8.5.1 the user has Notes open as well as IE8 and when browsing gets an error - C++ runtime has caused an error in Internet explorer. If the user closes Notes the problem goes away. Microsoft suggest doing a browser reset but this does not fix the problem. Not sure if it is Notes that is causing it or Microsoft but hopes someone may have seen this before and know of a fix. thanks Martin Oddly just found that if IE is launched first then Notes second it is OK, problem comes if Notes is launched first or already running. Science and then the IT industry. Saturday, April 17, 2010 Notes 8.5.1 requested Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way - Any ideas? - UPDATED It's Saturday afternoon, and I wanted to briefly http://notestoneunturned.blogspot.com/2010/04/notes-851-requested-runtime-to.html check something in Lotus Notes, then go off and do other weekend activities. But immediately after entering my Notes password, I got the following error: "This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way" http://stackoverflow.com/questions/33105054/in-ibm-lotus-notes-putinfolder-methods-mail-document-in-sent-or-drafts-view - just what I needed to enjoy my weekend! I have Notes 8.5.1 Standard client installed, and it has been running fine for months, including a month or so under Notes 8.5.1 Fix Pack 1. Thinking it lotus notes might be fixed by upgrading, I installed 8.5.1 Fix Pack 2 but got the same error. Notes Diagnostics (NSD) didn't seem to help. I trawled through all the online IBM and non-IBM support knowledgebases and forums that I could find, but didn't find anything relevant. Just in case it was a Windows error, I ran Registry Mechanic v9 and let it make some registry corrections, but to no avail as far as this Notes error is lotus notes runtime concerned. I'm not sure what to try next, so YOU are my support team! Have any of you come across, and resolved, this error with Notes 8? Do I shave to waste time and effort reinstalling Notes 8.5.1 and the two 8.5.1 fix packs? (And, for that matter, why does the Notes 8 install have to take so darn long, ten minutes or more instead of a couple of minutes? Pity that it's not a simple unzip-and-run like Eclipse.) Well, it's already Saturday evening here in the south-east corner of Australia., and I'm giving up on this until tomorrow at the earliest. (There are some good British TV shows on tonight that should let me slip my brain into neutral and take my mind off such stupid, unwanted software glitches!) UPDATE (01 May 2010) - PROBLEM RESOLUTION: Purely by chance, I worked out that the problem was caused by an extension manager add-in for Skytus (which is a free interface between Lotus Notes and Skype). I had Skytus version 1.1.15 quite happily working with no errors, but for some reason the new version 0.20.0 with it's MSI installer caused the major disruptions described above, and I've sent the details to developer Dmytro Pastovenskyi for resolution. If you get this horrendous Notes startup error, you can bypass it by commenting out with a leading se

On the surface, views and folders look the same. Both display documents vertically in rows, and for each row there are columns which show information about the document. For example, your Inbox (which is a folder) and All Documents (which is a view) both show emails, and the columns for each row display values such as the name of the Sender, the date, the size, and the subject. Where a Folder and View differ, is in how they determine which documents to display. Each view in a database, such as your mailbox, is pre-configured by a developer to show documents based on something called a "Selection Formula". That formula can range from something as simple as "All", so that every document in a database is shown, to a very granular formula such as "Show me all documents by a specific author, and are older than a specific date, and over a specific size". Folders on the other hand are more of an "open container" for documents. Instead of displaying documents based on any specific criteria, they display just those documents that you drag and drop into them, or redirect from your Inbox using Mail Rules. Folders tend to be more personal, and allow you to define your own way to store documents, organized in a manner which has meaning specific to you. Examples of views in your mailbox: All Documents, Sent, Drafts Examples of folders
