Canon Powershot A70 Memory Card
I have no answers to offer (so why am i here?). As an A70 canon powershot a60 memory card owner with a Kingston 256MB card and no history of error, I'm inclined to ask others what process they typically use

to clear pictures off the card?To date, I've only used the Camera itself (either delete all or format) to clear the card, having read bad things about using any external tool (windows explorer, etc.) for canon powershot a470 memory card wiping the card clean. Is there any rhyme or reason to this? Is it possibly linked to external 'writing' to the card? (which is what deleting an images or formatiing will do.. write to the card)Looking for answers and hoping I won't ever have to see this error on my Cam/Card. Couple of thousand pics with several dozens of delete/formats (I don't typically fill the card before I clear canon powershot a720 memory card it) without incident, knock on wood.Has anyone ever had someone from Canon acknowledge this alledged issue with any known causes/contributing factors?-icmpJoe Fackelman wrote:turb0 wrote:I've happily taken to making PHOTOS after receiving A70 camera as a b.d. present and buying PQI 256MB F1 card, until this one night..you've guessed it, MEMORY CARD ERROR came to visit.I've been shoved by both Companies, local Canon told to talk to authorized repair shop who basically refused to even hear about memory cards, while PQI preferred to keep silence. Recently after downloading a bunch of photos I started getting a 'Memory card error' whenever I turn on the camera. I have been using a SimpleTech 256MB CF card and initially thought it must be the card. Attempts to reformat this card resulted in E50 errors and the camera shuts down. I http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=19908 switched to the 16MB card that came with the camera, but I continue to get 'Memory card error' at startup. It does allow me to format the 16MB card, but after formatting it says I have 3.8MB and I still get the card error. Before I send this off to Canon (and cross my fingers...) I was wondering if anyone had any additional information about this problem. I have also tried taking the batteries out for 20-30 minutes since that was suggested to me - this did nothing.Thanks.-Paul LOG IN TO REPLY sponsored links (this ad will go away when you log in as registered member) stducstducSenior Member301 postsJoined Jun 2003More infoNov 07, 2003 08:11|#2Assuming that you have checked the obvious - namely are the batteries good ones? As you have problems with 2 different cards I suspect you have a camera problem. In your position I think I would first try powering up the camera and holding the power button for 5 seconds. This resets the camera to factory defaults. If that didn't w

Unfortunately what you have described indicates that the problem seems to be with your camera memory card slot thats why you are facing this type of problem. So first, using a flashlight and a magnifier, if necessary, look into the camera's cards slot to see if all of the pins are straight. If any are bent, you can attempt to straighten them using a small screwdriver. Next, If the pins appear straight, a70 memory card use a can of compressed air to blow out the slot, since a small piece of dust could block the connection. A conventional repair shop may be necessary if the DIY solutions don't solve the problem.
