The service runs fine. The installer runs http://stackoverflow.com/questions/16693048/windows-installer-error-1001-customaction-xxxxx-install-returned-actual-error fine on my development machine (windows 8 64 bit) and my XP virtual machine (32 bit). But on Windows Server 2008 R2, the same installer gets "Error 10001". No further information whatsover. The following information was included in the eventlog: Product: DbBackupServiceSetup -- Error 1001. (NULL) (NULL) (NULL) (NULL) (NULL) the message resource is present but the message is not found in the string/message table If I install manually with: C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v2.0.50727\InstallUtil.exe "D:\Program Files\Test\DbBackupService.exe" Then it works fine even on Windows Server 2008 R2... I've created one installer with 32 bit executables and one with 64 bit executables, but I get this error on both... I've tried executing the msi with logging enabled msiexec /i "D:\Install\DISK1\DbBackupServiceSetup.msi" /Lv "D:\example.log" The first indication of an error in the logfile is here: Created Custom Action Server with PID 3932 (0xF5C). MSI (s) (C0:74) [14:26:28:065]: Running as a service. MSI (s) (C0:74) [14:26:28:080]: Hello, I'm your 32bit Elevated custom action server. MSI (s) (C0!14) [14:26:33:681]: MSI (s) (C0:E8) [14:26:33:6
Vandaele12-01-2005, 11:12 AMUsing InstallShield 11.5 Professional I created a merge module that contains a component for which the .Net Installer Class property is set to True. When I include this merge module in my setup, I get the following error during installation: Error 1001.InstallUtilLib.dll: Unknown error. When I set the .Net Installer Class property to false, this error does not occur. (but my service is obviously not installed) The component has been compiled using Visual Studio 2005, but contains references to assemblies that were built using Visual Studio 2003. The .Net 1.1 and 2.0 framework are both available on my target system. Any ideas what is going wrong or how can I work around this ? tia, Jan MichaelU12-01-2005, 11:54 AMI don't have any good test installer classes handy, but if all you're doing with the installer class is installing a service, I would suggest using the builtin MSI service capabilities, exposed under the advanced node on each component. Qingsong12-01-2005, 01:33 PMHi, I have the same issue with Jan Vandaele. I was using IS 11 and got this issue. I waitted for IS 11.5 and got the same issue. I have to use CA to run InstallUtil manually for the service registration and un-registration. Regards, Qingsong Christopher Painter12-01-2005, 02:03 PMI assume everyone has seen this one by now: http://support.installshield.com/kb/view.asp?articleid=q108690 Qingsong12-01-2005, 06:26 PMHi, Chris, I tried to follow the procedures described in Q108690. However I still got the same error message. BTW, I am not using merge module. Just a components. Regards, Qingsong Christopher Painter12-01-2005, 09:33 PMBetween me and you, I'd dump installutl in the first place. I have seen this problem also with IS 11, but thought it was due to incompatibility with framework 2.0. So I waited for IS 11.5, but still have the same problem. Remark that the error message is not exactly as spec
