of a package msi laurents08-31-2005, 04:59 AMHi all!!! I have an issue during a test of uninstallation of a repackaging application. The installation is right but when i want to uninstall the application i have the following error ERROR 1306 : Another application has exclusive access to the file c:\windows\windowsupdate.log. Please shutdown all other application and retry. I close i other applications and i have the same issue :( Does anybody could help me please ? Thx in advance TsungH08-31-2005, 03:10 PMUninstallation will attempt to remove files put down by the package. In this case, windowsupdate.log. I don't believe this file should be in your package in the first place. hld103104-13-2006, 10:00 AMBuilt several packages using AdminStudio 7 Repackager wizard. Some packages work fine. However, when uninstalling some I receive “Error 1306. Another application has exclusive access to the file C:\WINNT\WindowsUpdate.log. Please shut down all other applications, then click Retry.” This happens in both Microsoft Windows 2000 Pro and Microsoft Windows XP Pro. I have checked the Open Files under Computer Management, and do not show any files open. I can discontinue MSIEXEC.EXE from the Task Manager, and sometimes this allows me to continue uninstalling the item. Also, when I do happen to have a successful uninstall of a packaged produce and try to uninstall another product (packaged or not), occasionally I receive ”Error 1704.An installation for the last package that was uninstalled successfully is currently suspended. You must undo the changes made by that installation to continue. Do you want to undo those changes?” When you click Yes, the last package that was uninstalled tries to reinstall. Any suggestions would be appreciated. TsungH04-15-2006, 07:43 PMI don't believe windowsupdate.log should be in your packages in the first place. hld103104-18-2006, 0

The packages, once created, install fine. Unfortunately, when uninstalling some of the products, receiving "Error 1306. Another application has exclusive access to the file C:\WINNT\WindowsUpdate.log. Please shut down all other applications, then click Retry." Most of the situations, I can end the http://www.geekstogo.com/forum/topic/104973-error-1306-windowsupdatelog/ MSIEXE.EXE process via Task Manager and click Retry (since I don't have any other applications open, or for that matter installed on my test machine). One application won't even allow me to end the MSIEXE.EXE task. This happens on both W2k and XP platforms with all critical updates completed. Anyone have any ideas how to resolve this? 0 Advertisements #2 fleamailman Posted 27 March 2006 - 06:20 PM fleamailman Member 2k Member 2,383 posts My 2cts worth, here are two tools, one to see your processes and stop them if needed, the other to override their being used by something else, so that you can then delete them from the appwiz.cpl(add/remove programs) both are free, hope this helps, do post back with result and good luck.Process explorer is stand alone http://www.sysintern...ssExplorer.htmlUnlocker one must installhttp://www.scanwith....er_download.htm 0 #3 backcountrybum Posted 23 June 2006 - 12:52 PM backcountrybum New Member Member 1 posts Thank you very much. Development I get "annoying" error 1306 when I try to uninstall a MSI pacakge I've created! You could do that, but the better solution is probably to remove that file from the installation. Sounds like it does not belong there. They're held open by one of the processes, I forget which. So, before trying to delete them, stop the WU and BITS services. Don't forget to re-start them afterwards (and check that they started, too) Answered 04/09/2008 by: VBScab Please log in to comment Please log in to comment 0 Yes guys! You were right, both of you! First of all that file (qmgr0.dat and qmgr1.dat) shouldn't be part of package. As VBScab wrote I stopped both BITS and WU services and ran uninstall, so it
16, 2006. Doug Ferguson Guest I have a program I want to uninstall from a group of computers. I installed it as an msi via Group Policy. When I try to uninstall I get: Product: StuPgCnt -- Error 1306. Another application has exclusive access to the file 'C:\WINNT\WindowsUpdate.log'. Please shut down all other applications, then click Retry. Any ideas how I could get around this?
