We do not attempt to list all error messages here: there are many which should never occur, and some which should be self-explanatory. Every server identifies itself by means of a host key; once PuTTY knows the host key for a server, it will be able to detect if a malicious attacker redirects your connection to another machine. If you see this message, it means that PuTTY has not seen this host key before, and has no way of knowing whether it is correct or not. You should attempt to verify the host key by other means, such as asking the machine's administrator. If you see this message and y

It must be something in the firewall settings that instructs the SSH server to refuse connection to specific clients (evidently, Putty is among such clients). Removing firewalld resolved the problem for me. apt-get autoremove firewalld If you still need a firewall, you will need to find out which one you're using and adjust the settings accordingly. share|improve this answer answered Apr 3 at 18:50 Eugene G 1 add a comment| Your Answer draft saved draft discarded Sign up or log in Sign up using Google Sign up using Facebook Sign up using Em
