Problem(Abstract) When attempting to access Cognos Connection network error dns unresolved hostname fix through a fully qualified URL, the following error is returned: DNS network error (dns_unresolved_hostname) your requested host Server Network Error (dns_unresolved_hostname) Diagnosing the problem The error is only found when using FQDN (Fully Qualified Domain Name)

Resolving the problem [Steps] 1.Check that that a "hosts" file exists on the user's computer For example, check c:\winnt\system32\drivers\etc\hosts (Windows NT/2000/XP Pro) (you may need administrator access for Windows NT/2000/XP) 2. Please untick "Automatically detect settings", at least the fixed my problem, it may fix yours. My localhost was 172.31.13.104 with a web-server on 8080 port. VM's network in 'Bridged' mode.When I tried to get an access to webserver 172.31.13.104:8080/webserver/ via Chrome it was successful. But IE failed. All browsers can connect but not IE... :)The solution is... amazing :DJust added 'http://' prefix :-/P.S. It's a minor issue but it cost me 30 minutes of work time.
