Goto Windows-Start->Programs->Microsoft SQL Server 20xx->Configuration Tools->SQL-ServerConfiguration-Manager After starting this Configuration Tool go to SQL-Server-Network-config.-> protocols for [instance name] Open TCP/IP at right site Choose IP-Adresses above. Scroll down to IPAll Insert in the field for TCP-Port your port 1433 Restart SQL-Server service. u can check if your server is now listening on port 1433 with queries use master sp_ReadErrorLog --(sql server 2012) --or Xp_readerrorlog --(sql server 2008 and below) in the result you should read something like Server is listening on [ 'any'

It get the error: Network Error IOException: Connection Refused: connect In the Database Connection setup: Host is set to "localhost", port= 1433, Database name is correct. The server is on the same machine. Any ideas, I am stumped on this one! Thanks! There may be a number of reasons why this could happen: 1. The server name is misspelled or the port number is incorrect. 2. SQL Server is not configured to use TCP/IP. Either enable TCP/IP from SQL Server’s Network Utility app or have jTDS connect via named pipes (see network error ioexception the URL format for information on how to do this). 3. There is a firewall blocking port 1433 on the server. Here is the solution you could refer to: https://cgsrv1.arrc.csiro.au/blog/2010/05/24/java-sql-sqlexception-network-error-ioexception-connection-refused-connect-sql-express/ Hope this helps. Go to Start -> All Programs -> Microsoft SQL Server 2008 -> SQL Server Configuration Manager 2. In SQL Server Configuration Manager Expand SQL Server Network Configuration. 3. Click Protocols for MSSQLSERVER(Default Instance). 4. In the details pane, right-click the TCP/IP protocol, and then click Enable. 5.Right-click SQL Server (MSSQLSERVER), and then click Restart.
