Hello all; Using UltraVNC 1.01. http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/386191 Trying to remotely connect to a Win98 box from a WinXP box. Right now both computers are on same LAN for testing purposes. Will try to go network error from outside the network once I get this much working :) I have VNC running as service on the '98 machine (via the -install switch). When I go to the XP box and try to network error remote connect via the Viewer app, I get prompted for the password, but then nothing happens. Viewer seems to just dissapear after I enter the password. Then I tried the web-based route (port 5800) using Firefox. The applet loads and I am again prompted for a password. Then I get the error: "Network error: remote side closed connection". Why would this happen? I had everything working fine between 2 WinXP machines before. Thanks for any input you could provide. posted 2005-Aug-20, 3:02 pm ref: whrl.pl/RFkTq posted 2005-Aug-20, 3:02 pm O.P. Hi all, I tried to use UltraVNC to connect to my home PC using internet browser but cannot get thru. I 've done all requirements.1. Open ports 5800 and 5900 , for second session 5801/5901 and so on2. Installed VNC server and VNC viewer, with VNC server open all the time with correct port or session number.3. Open VNC viewer to connect to another internal PC is working fine with no issues.4. But when I tried to use web browser IE V6 to connect to one of the home PC from work e.g 214.x.x.x : 5801 , you can see the VNC browser desktop open then enter the password but i get the reponse back " Network Error : remote side connection closed " or other PC with " Network error : Socket connection refused "Same error even I test internal n/w , 192.168.x.x : 5802 I am using Win2K and Win2K3, but if I use the VNC viewer from outside (WAN) to connect to home (LAN) PC then I can get thru Ok. Is there any other trick to get this going using browser ? Thanks in advance. VNC uses default port + display number to control what display you are looking at so by using 5802 you're trying to connect to display 2. Did you add the port forwarding rules so that each session goes to the correct PC. ie. If you have PC with private IP address 192.168.1.20 and running display 0, then you would port forward TCP 214.X.X.X:5800 to 192.1681
