We do not attempt to list all error messages here: there are many which putty network error software caused connection abort windows 10 should never occur, and some which should be self-explanatory. If you get an error message which is not listed in this chapter and which you don't understand, report it to us as a bug (see appendix B) and we will add documentation for it. 10.1 ‘The server's host key is not cached in the registry' This error message occurs when PuTTY connects to a new SSH server. Every server identifies itself by means of a host key; once PuTTY knows the host key for a server, it will be able to detect if a malicious attacker redirects your connection to another machine. If you see this message, it means that PuTTY has not seen this host key before, and has no way of knowing whether it is correct or not. You should attempt to verify the host key by other means, such as asking the machine's administrator. If you have a password and shell set for your user you will be able to log in there as it does not depend on your ssh service. I would then recommend checking /var/log/auth.log and the other log files in /var/log for your ssh login attempts and you should find more information on why they failed. I have tried both user/pass and public/private key. I get the same "Network error: Software caused connection abort". *I am using Windows 10 Reply Log In to Comment Have another answer?
