caused connection abort" and then the PuTTY SSH window is inactive. Usually I can login in the server with PuTTY and do something, but after a random time (about one or two minutes) I get that error. And sometimes I even can't login, getting an error saying timeout. I guess there's something wrong with my VMware Player, because I have another Ubuntu desktop hosted in VMware as a code repository server, and it more often than not has a timeout error when I do an SVN update/commit. However, I also guess Windows7 has some quirk because the same Ubuntu server hosted in VMware as a code repository works very well when on WindowsVista! It seems all the bad things happen after I moved from WindowsXP to WindowsVista and then Windows7! What could be the reason for this problem and how can it be fixed? Supplement: I did a Google search and applied all methods to help, including: Enable sshd TCPKeepAlive Set sshd ClientAliveInterval to 900 and ClientAliveCountMax to 3 Set the PuTTY connection setting 'seconds between keepalives' to 5. But these all don't work! And the SS

What seemed to be the problem was that my IP Address was being blocked, given that I had too many failed login attempts. After requesting the IP to be unblocked and waiting a little bit the problem was solved. If the godaddy representative that attended the call is reading this THANK YOU DUDE! I have a godaddy account (shared hosting), and it comes with the ability http://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/283166/putty-ssh-tracert-network-error-software-caused-connection-abort to use the linux terminal via SSH Access. When I first obtained PuTTy, everything was working fine, however I tried to login 10 (more or less) different times with the wrong Username and Password, and now every time I click Open in PuTTy, I get the black terminal page but with this popup error message: Network error: Software caused connection abort Here is the actual image: http://i.imgur.com/E9cQB3M.png I don't even have the option to type anything in the black terminal anymore and no writing appears inside the terminal, as if it were frozen. I contacted Godaddy (great service btw) and we did the following tests: Downloaded putty on my other laptop, got same error when attempting connection Godaddy managed to log in themselves via SSH and managed without a problem I constantly used the "enable" option in godaddys CPanel under SSH Access, so that was not the problem The final test we did was I entered my cmd.exe and ran the following command: tracert 108.blah.blah.blah 108.blah.blah.blah represents the IP Address of my websites, and there is where we found a problem. I was obtaining a lot of values like 147 ms, and I also had 5 lines that appeared like: * * * here is an img of the tracert results http://i.imgur.com/MzYKoSI.png Godaddy mentioned that this seemed to be the issue and to contact my ISP, though what I can't figure out is why when I first ran PuTTy, I had absolutely no probl

It gives me this error roughly after 10-20 minutes of inactivity. I don't see any ping interruptions to the SSH server i am trying to hit. The ONLY settings i haven entered after a fresh reinstall have been (Confidential Server name) Port: 22 Connection type: SSH LISTED STEPS TAKEN: 1. Check for bad settings under "Session" And several other options in putty. 2. Complete reinstall of putty. 3. Spoke with my system administrators for anything wrong 4. Ran pings for when this interruption occurs. And i have a 0% Loss pinging the SSH Server. In advance thank you all for your help! Nothing has changed on my end since I last came in (last week). All of the sudden I can't log into the Linux computer (and I need to) through WinSCP or Putty. Does anyone know why this is? I've searched alot, but only found answers regarding iPhones etc... Obviously I do not have Windows Firewall on, and like I said, have made no changes since I last used the computer last week. Any suggestions? Thanks! Advertisements rockinghorse2 Guest Posted: 2011-11-10 05:33 [Reply with quote] just wanted to add, when I do ifconfig on my Linux computer it shows the correct ipaddress within my network. Both of the computers are sitting right here and connected through a netgear router to the rest of our network. Also I get the same error message for both WinSCP and Putty, it comes up right away after trying to log in. rockinghorse2 Guest Posted: 2011-11-10 05:36 [Reply with quote] also, I am able to access the internet on both computers and ping both computers from one another with no loss. On a side note, does anyone know how I can edit my original post instead of posting continuous replies?
