The Firewall is set up to allow access on Port 22, but I'm still getting this error message. What could be causing this error when the firewall is open to traffic on Port 22? What firewall do you mean, the one on local or remote side? Also note that some local firewalls can block connection based on application, not only port._________________Martin Prikryl stamfordblue [View user's profile] Joined: 2006-04-19 Posts: 1 Posted: 2006-04-19 23:17 [Reply with quote] I get the same error. I'm making SSH connections to it from my PC via Putty. The problem is, sometimes I'm able to login seamlessly. However, sometimes it gives me an error like this: network error connection Network error: Connection refused. Then, I dont't change anything, try to login a few times more, wait a while and try again. Sometimes I can log in, sometimes I cannot. It seems pretty random to me. What can I do to solve this? Edit: And Sometimes, Putty gives Network error: Software caused connection abort error after displaying login as: text. Connection Refused usually means that the Ubuntu server is not listening for incoming connections. Please try this command on your Ubuntu server, to see if port 22 is listening at all, and post the results here: Code: netstat -lnt If ssh is listening for connections, you should see a line like the one below.: Code: tcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:22 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN As a further test, if you try to use telnet to port 22 of the Ubuntu server, you should see it announce the version of ssh it is running. Try this command on your windows PC (with the ip address of the Ubuntu server) Code: telnet 1.2.3.4 22 You should see an answer like this if the SSH server is running: Code: SSH-2.0-OpenSSH_6.
