These servers are all on the same AWS account and use the same authentication key. However, I'm not able putty network error to log in to two of them. What happens is:- Open PuTTY- Select connection shortcut from "Saved Sessions"- Click "Open"- The black SSH windows opens, along with a "PuTTY Fatal Error" window saying, "Network error: Permission denied"There are two weird things about this:- Weird thing #1: the "Fatal Error" window comes up immediately upon clicking "Open", i.e. before it can possibly have reached the point where it's actually trying to authenticate- Weird thing #2: the shortcut for one of these servers recently and apparently spontaneously worked perfectly fine for a couple of days last week, but now it's gone back to the same non-functional stateThe PuTTY settings themselves are fine: I've checked and double-checked the shortcut settings, created new ones from known good ones with the correct path to the correct key, connected manually several times to make sure I'm not going crazy, etc. etc. So my feeling is that this has to be something to do with my local network. Is there anything I can look at to locate this problem? Any locally cached settings that might need to be cleared out, etc. Paladin "Wack." Ars Legatus Legionis et Subscriptor Tribus: Never Knows Best. Registered: Feb 9, 2001Posts: 20624 Poste
be causing a "network error - connection failed" when using PuTTY on Windows 7 Ultimate and trying to connect to a specific IP address?UpdateCancelAnswer Wiki4 Answers Terry Humphrey, Systems EngineerWritten 115w agoI've run into this issue several times before. Here are the most common reasons that I've run into:*The box I was trying to connect to wasn’t turned on. Working in a corporate environment, this happens actually quite frequently*The box I was connecting to didn’t have SSH turned on. *The box was on a different network/domain than what I was on.*The Firewall was blocking all traffic from Putty and not allowing me to connect to other computers.*SSH died on the computer I was attempting to connect to. I had to reset the remote server in order to use Putty to SSH into it.*Trying to connect through Putty using the wrong protocol. If the box is using SSH, don’t try to connect using Telnet, it won’t work. There are other things that it could be, but those seem to be the most common causes that I run into at work.3.5k Views · View Upvotes · Answer requested by Indira RoyRelated QuestionsMore Answers BelowHow do I resolve this "Windows cannot connect to the hidden network" error over a WiFi network in Windows 7 64 bit?How do I use Putty in BITS goa? You'll have to set up port forwarding if this is the case.SSH may also be blocked by a firewall on the server, or along the route to the server. The server might not also be available, or as Terry pointed out, may not have SSH installed.2.1k Views · View Upvotes Simon Kunze, expert Winbl0ws userWritten 115w agoThanks for the A2A.The only thing I can think of causing this problem would be setting it to the wrong protoco
