We do not attempt to list all error messages here: there are putty network error software caused connection abort windows 10 many which should never occur, and some which should be self-explanatory. If you get an error message which is not listed in this chapter and which you don't understand, report it to us as a bug (see appendix B) and we will add documentation for it. 10.1 ‘The server's host key is not cached in the registry' This error message occurs when PuTTY connects to a new SSH server. Every server identifies itself by means of a host key; once PuTTY knows the host key for a server, it will be able to detect if a malicious attacker redirects your connection to another machine. If you see this message, it means that PuTTY has not seen this host key before, and has no way of knowing whether it is correct or not. You should attempt to verify the host key by other means, such as asking the machine's administrator. If you see this message and you know that your installation of PuTTY has connected to the same server before, it may have been recently upgraded to SSH protocol version 2. SSH protocols 1 and 2 use separate host keys, so when you first use SSH-2 with a serv

"Network error: Software caused connection abort" and closes....why? March 1, 2015 16.6k views I want to use PuTTY with username and password instead of ssh keys. I edited /etc/ssh/sshd_config and uncommented '#PasswordAuthentication yes ' Then I restarted ssh https://the.earth.li/~sgtatham/putty/0.60/htmldoc/Chapter10.html with 'service ssh restart' But, when I try and use PuTTY to log into server PuTTY does not connect and gives the "Network error: Software caused connection abort" message. What am I screwing up? 1 comment 1 sierracircle March 1, 2015 does putty have a way to add options? Like: ssh -v youruser@yourdomain.com adding the -v will give you some more output which can help figure out what is going on. If you have a password and shell set for your user you will be able to log in there as it does not depend on your ssh service. I would then recommend checking /var/log/auth.log and the other log files in /var/log for your ssh login attempts and you should find more information on why they failed. Nothing has changed on my end since I last came in (last week). All of the sudden I can't log into the Linux network error computer (and I need to) through WinSCP or Putty. Does anyone know why this is? I've searched alot, but only found answers regarding iPhones etc... Obviously I do not have Windows Firewall on, and like I said, have made no changes since I last used the computer last week. Any suggestions? Thanks! Advertisements rockinghorse2 Guest Posted: 2011-11-10 05:33 [Reply with quote] just wanted to add, when I do ifconfig on my Linux computer network error software it shows the correct ipaddress within my network. Both of the computers are sitting right here and connected through a netgear router to the rest of our network. Also I get the same error message for both WinSCP and Putty, it comes up right away after trying to log in. rockinghorse2 Guest Posted: 2011-11-10 05:36 [Reply with quote] also, I am able to access the internet on both computers and ping both computers from one another with no loss. On a side note, does anyone know how I can edit my original post instead of posting continuous replies? However, I am not running any firewalls or keepalives. Like I said, it worked fine one day and stopped working the next (without me changing anything). Thanks! rockinghorse2 Guest Posted: 2011-11-15 02:42 [Reply with quote] Hi everyone, In case some poor soul comes across this problem in the future, I was able to fix this problem by restarting my SSH service on the remote server machine (the linux one)

What seemed to be the problem was that my IP Address was being blocked, given that I had too many failed login attempts. After requesting the IP to be unblocked and waiting a little bit the problem was solved. If the godaddy representative that attended the call is reading this THANK YOU DUDE! I have a godaddy account (shared hosting), and it comes with the ability to use the linux terminal via SSH Access. When I first obtained PuTTy, everything was working fine, however I tried to login 10 (more or less) different times with the wrong Username and Password, and now every time I click Open in PuTTy, I get the black terminal page but with this popup error message: Network error: Software caused connection abort Here is the actual image: http://i.imgur.com/E9cQB3M.png I don't even have the option to type anything in the black terminal anymore and no writing appears inside the terminal, as if it were frozen. I contacted Godaddy (great service btw) and we did the following tests: Downloaded putty on my other laptop, got same error when attempting connection Godaddy managed to log in themselves via SSH and managed without a problem I constantly used the "enable" option in godaddys CPanel under SSH Access, so that was not the problem The final test we did was I entered my cmd.exe and ran the following command: tracert 108.blah.blah.blah 108.blah.blah.blah represents the IP Address of my websites, and there is where we found a problem. I was obtaining a lot of values like 147 ms, and I also had 5 lines that appeared like: * * * here is an img of the
