Norton Ghost Error 12020
very poor, and the only Symantec NG I have on my PC is for Win95. In any case, I have always found this NG to be by far and away the lost helpful, whatever the question. I have Win98SE with NAV 2002 and NU 2002. I use Ghost to clone my hard drive, following a near fatal disaster. Hitherto no problems, but this evening I got this error message, and I am hoping that someone will recognise it and respond. The Symantec Article on this error says: "Solution: Because this situation has a variety of causes, no one solution will work in every case. To resolve the problem, try each of the following solutions. Power settings The power savings settings in the computer's BIOS may cause this problem. Power saving settings enable some BIOSs to shutdown selected devices. To resolve the problem, disable the power saving features in the computers' BIOS. To access the BIOS, consult your computer's documentation. CD-ROM configuration This problem can also happen when Ghost does not have access to the CD-ROM drive. See the document How to determine whether Ghost can access the CDR/RW drive. IDE controller With some CD writers such as the Iomega CDZIP 12x4x32 CDR/W drive, this problem sometimes happens when the CD writer is on the same IDE controller as the hard disk that Ghost is cloning. To resolve the problem, attach the CD writer and hard disk to different IDE controllers. Typically, this results in making the disk drive the Primary Master and the CD writer the Secondary Master." None of the above applies to me, since I clone regularly, and so far without difficulty. I wonder if it is simply a case of a faulty CD-R. Are you spanning CD's or will the contents of your drive fit on one CD? Rockn, Apr 14, 2002 #2 John Sparkman Joined: Apr 4, 2001 Messages: 616 It sounds like you are using a ghost boot disc created using PC DOS. Try making a new boot disc using MSDOS and give it another try. Also make sure your using CD-R/RW discs for computer writers and not CD-R disc for audio (For use with home stereo audio writers). You should not need to use a spanning switch in the comand line. Ghost will let you know when it's time to put in another disc.
