Apple Music Oct 13, 2012 3:43 AM in response to littleunicorn21 Make sure there's enough free space on the startup disk to install updates.Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon on your desktop then click Get Info.Look for Capacity and Available in the Get Info panel.Make sure there's at least 15% available disk space. And make sure you are logged into the admin account when running Software Update. If there's enough free storage space and you are logged in as the admin, could be corrupted preferences.Open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to FolderType or copy/paste: /Library/PreferencesClick Go then move the com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist file from the Preferences folder to the Trash. Empty the Trash. Then click your Apple menu > Software Update Helpful (0) Reply options Link to this post by littleunicorn21, littleunicorn21 Oct 13, 2012 5:16 AM in response to Carolyn Samit Level 1 (0 points) Oct 13, 2012 5:16 AM in response to Carolyn Samit Thanks a lot for your advice. The update is 662 MB in size and contains numerous fixes for bugs and security vulnerabilities for OS X El Capitan.Apple has switched over to a fast release cycle lately, and have implemented a system that sees a beta version of an operating system being developed, tested and pushed out in a os x matter of weeks rather than months. This means that major new features in updates have become less common in OS X releases, such as with OS X 10.11.3 which entered into beta status in mid-December and has no major changes.OS X 10.11.4, the next El Capitan update scheduled to be released from Apple, will introduce some new features however. First, download an alternative copy of OS X 10.11.3 via the Apple Support website and try installing the update that way. There are two versions of OS X 10.11.3 on the Apple Support site, the standalone update (662 MB) and the combo version (1.47 GB).If that doesn’t work, OS X Daily recommends navigating to the Date & Time menu in System Preferences and making sure that “Set date and time automatically” has been checked and is enabled. I've tried so many options. I purchased a used MacBook Pro, late 2011 model. The person I purchased it from said he wiped the hard drive, but when I got home, it seems he did that, however his login was still there. So I did a disk utility, wiped the hard drive which checked out fine, got to the reinstall Yosemite page, but there is no hard drive icon, only the install Yosemite page. When I click continue I get this error, "An error occurred while preparing the installation. Try running this application again." Click on Utilities –> Terminal When the terminal window opens, type date and hit enter. What you will notice is that the date listed will be wrong. That wrong date is what is causing the reinstall error. To correct the wrong date –> type date followed by MMDDHHMMYYYY (Month – Date – Hour – Minute – Year) Exit and begin a new install, the problem should now be solved. share|improve this answer answered Jan 10 '15 at 12:37 JamiePatt 3,2172929 My date is not wrong :( –Caio Iglesias Aug 16 at 20:54 add a comment| up vote 2 d
