Access 2007 Overflow Error
#1 Advertisements Ken Snell [MVP] Guest Most likely it means that the size of a numeric value that is being imported overflow when running access query into a table is *too large* or *too small* for the field type. For example, a field that is set for Integer can handle values between -32,768 and 32,767. If you try to put the
Access Divide By Zero
number 1,000,0000 into this field, the "overflow" message error will occur. -- Ken Snell

Both report and query were fine before lunch and the only thing I have changed is updated the data from one of the tables it pull info from. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! As an http://www.pcreview.co.uk/threads/what-does-overflow-message-mean-in-microsoft-access.1640979/ example, open the Immediate Window (Ctrl+G), and enter: ? 200 * 200 It overflows, because the default data type in VBA is Integer (16-bit), which runs out at 32767. 40000 is too big, so we must convert one of the numbers to a Long Integer (32-bit) so it does not overflow: ? CLng(200) * 200 Use CDbl() to convert to a double, CCur() to convert to Currency, CVDate() to convert to date. https://bytes.com/topic/access/answers/209934-overflow -- Allen Browne - Microsoft MVP. Have you checked the actual overflow error access value that causes the error?Click to expand... I couldn't tell if it was just one value or not. If I copy the sql to design view I just get the overflow error immediately. I then removed the calcs and the query would run. Then I started playing around to see if I could get the calculations to work. I changed all values in the original table to doubles and set the "group by" total to expression. I have it working for now, so I hope that will suffice. Thanks! Roger rconverse, Jan 8, 2008 #4 This thread has been Locked and is not open to further replies. Now I understand why it's doing this as obviously it's trying to divide by Zero - however, I need this calculation as it's entirely possible that the [Possible] field would have a value of zero and this is correct. I thought of doing something like Actual %: IIf([Possible]=0,0,Avg(Format([Total]/[Possible]*100,"Fixed"))) But this gives me an error saying: You tried to execute a query that does not include the specified expression ..... as part of an aggregate function How can I get round this please? Code: Actual %: Avg(IIF([Possible] = 0, 0, Format(CDbl([Total])/CDbl([Possible])*100,"Fixed"))) Also, if the calculatiion in the Format function is supposed to be a percentage then the bracketting is incorrect in the above code so you can use this: Code: Actual %: Avg(IIF([Possible] = 0, 0, Format((CDbl([Total])/CDbl([Possible]))*100,"Fixed"))) If you're getting the error message: Quote: You tried to execute a query that does not include the specified expression ..... as part of an aggregate function Then you need to right click in any cell and select Totals. Under this field change Group By to Expression OR Remove Avg from the code line and select Avg in the Total row. vbaInet View Public Profile Find More Posts by vbaInet 03-29-2011, 03:37 AM #3 jonny1409 Newly Registered User Join Date: Mar 2011 Posts: 2 Thanks: 0 Thanked 0 Times in 0 Posts Re: Overflow Error In Query Thanks for your response.
