Solution 1 Accept Solution Reject Solution We can't. The Overflow error occurs when you program tries to use a value that is too large for the datatype that is trying to handle it. For example, a unsigned byte is an eight bit quantity: it can hole values from 0 to 255. So if you load it with 200 and then try to add 200 to it, it will overflow. Without your code, and some idea of where the error occurs, we cannot solve your problem. But you can: When it occurs the it will raise an exception, which will give loads of information, such as what function, what line number, and so forth. Catch the exception, and look at it. If necessary, log it to a file and view it later if you cannot run the server code

I created a new instance of a class (the class was in another file), but at the first time I call a method it throws a StackOverFlow exception. The only thing that I think would logically throw a stackoverflow exception would be if someone downvoted Jon Skeet. But seriously now, what is it? I got around it by overflow error in creating another class in the same file as the first class and using that to call the methods for me. exception stack-overflow share|improve this question edited Feb 22 '10 at 5:53 Ether 39.8k1065140 asked Sep 20 '09 at 3:11 Cyclone 8,7273698165 Perhaps a dump of your error and some source would help us answer this riddle for you. –klabranche Sep 20 '09 at 3:18 2 Down voting Jon actually causes a BSOD. :) –klabranche Sep 20 '09 at 3:18 Not gonna go back and re-break my code, as it isnt under source control and I don't feel like breaking something that works. Im half worried Jon will see this question now lol. –Cyclone Sep 20 '09 at 3:27 And you should be.... If Jon sees this and get's upset you'll get another unexplained stack overflow. –klabranche Sep 20 '09 at 3:40 And of course, that stackoverflow will cause the BSOD (Black screen of death), thereby physically disconnecting the wires connected to my monitor. To make matters worse, this is a laptop >.< –Cyclone Sep 20 '09 at 3:43 add a comment| 8 Answers 8 active oldest votes up vote 6 down vote accepted As a general rule, a stack ove
of C# code does not produce any overflow exception. wordsize is a constant equal to 32. the x and y can be very big at the computation time. So big that long or decimal even cant hold. But C# handles the problem even the value of the variables exceeds its limits. The computation gives thr right result.(I dont know how it does it) /** * Perform a right "spin" of the word. The rotation of the given * word x is rotated left by y bits. * Only the lg(wordSize) low-order bits of y * are used to determine the rotation amount. Here it is * assumed that the wordsize used is a power of 2. * * @param x word to rotate * @param y number of bits to rotate % wordSize */ private int RotateRight(int x, int y) { return ((int)(((uint) x >> (y & (wordSize-1))) | (uint)(x << (wordSize - (y & (wordSize-1)))))); } I tried to convert it into VB.NET like below. But it always gives an overflow exception. Private Function RotateRight(ByVal x As Integer, ByVal y As Integer) As Integer Return (CInt(Fix((CUInt(x) >> (y And (wordSize - 1))) Or CUInt(x << (wordSize - (y And (wordSize - 1))))))) End Function What can be the reason? How can I solve it? Can you write a better VB.NET equivalent of the C# code above? exception large overflow small vb.net gangsta1903 2 111 posts since May 2008 Community Member 3Contributors 5Replies 8Views 6 YearsDiscussion Span 6 Years Ago Last Post by gangsta1903 0 apegram 302 6 Years Ago You're probably going over the maximum value of an integer. Consider the following two code samples. static void Main(string[] args) { int max = int.MaxValue; max++; Console.WriteLine(max); Console.Read(); } Sub Main() Dim max As Integer = Integer.MaxValue max += 1 Console.WriteLine(max) Console.Read() End Sub Aside from language, the two code pieces are identical. The VB version will throw an overflow exception. The C# version executes without a problem. Why? The answer is that the C# exec
