the login screen (which is slow to respond to keyboard/mouse input), and after logging in, I get the following: Fatal Error (Error Code: 5) Your Remote Desktop session is about to end. This computer might be low on virtual memory. Close your other programs, and then try connecting to the remote computer again. If the problem continues, contact your network administrator or technical support. I've seen one way to (sometimes) get in by opening a second RDP session to the same box [1], and if I wait long enough sometimes it will go ahead and log in anyway. Is there something broken/missing on the PC I'm trying to remote in to? Edited in reply to djangofan: There's nobody listed under "Lock pages in memory". When the double login trick works, a glance at Task Manager shows plenty of free memory, >800MB available out of 1.5 GB. (Performance tab, Physical memory) For what it's worth, this happens consistently after a reboot. What sort of exact info would be useful? There's very little remaining installed on that machine that's not Windows + Office... [1] found at http://www.fdcserv

So what have I got set up? 1 PC and 2 laptops, all running XP Pro, all Wi-Fi connected via a linksys Access Point/ADSL modem/Router. They are all part of the same workgroup and this is a LAN (all 3 are at home) not a WAN issue I believe. I can run RDC client on any of the 3 and the server side works on both the laptops (i.e. I can connect to either of them from the PC or other laptop). However, I can no longer connect to the PC from either of the laptops using RDC (it worked fine about 6 months ago) without getting this error: Fatal Error (Error Code: 5) The session will be disconnected. Your computer may be low on memory. After closing some applications, try to reconnect the session. The error is produced after the password is entered. However anything such as typing or mouse movements inside the RDC window is slow pr

Posted on 2005-10-20 Windows XP 1 Verified Solution 26 Comments 3,422 Views Last Modified: 2008-04-17 I've remote desktop been using a Remote Desktop connection from my notebook computer (WinXP Pro, SP2) to my desktop computer (WinXP Pro, SP2) for at least a year now, sometimes over the internet but mostly over my wireless LAN with no problems. In the last couple of days I've been getting a "Fatal Error" (Error #5, fwiw) when I connect, telling me that there isn't enough memory on error code 5 my desktop computer to maintain the connection, and disconnecting me. The exact warning text is- "Fatal Error (Error Code: 5) The session will be disconnected. Your computer may be low on memory. After closing some programs, try to reconnect the session." I've run all sorts of tests, defrag-ed the hard drive, CHKDSK-ed the drive, full Norton Antivirus scan, etc. I've checked the Task Manager's Performance tab and can't see any excessive memory use, etc. I can do a Remote Desktop >from< the desktop to either of the two other computers on the LAN (the notebook and my wife's desktop), but can't go the other way around. I haven't put anything on the desktop computer since well before this happened, and have connected via Remote Desktop many times in the days before this message started coming up... I need suggestions on what to do to get this working again! Thanks in advance, J.
