Could Not Load The Remote Desktop Services Activex Control
SP1? Windows Server > Remote Desktop Services (Terminal Services) Question 0
Remote Desktop Services Activex Client
Sign in to vote RDWEB SSO works correctly on all clients except one: A Win 7 SP1 machine running IE9. On this one machine, WKSPRT doesn't load during RDWEB logon; it loads when the first .RDP gets pushed from the server, and because WKSPRT https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2446026 isn't already running with the creds cached,we get prompted for creds. Once WKSPRT is loaded, SSO continues to work for the remainder of the session. The RDWEB ActiveX control used to be listed in IE/Manage Add-Ons. I reset IE to try to solve the problem, but after that, the ActiveX control completely disappeared from https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/office/en-US/0d64a8b7-d950-4c44-8ac5-b56b33ae8b37/uninstallreinstall-mstscaxdll-on-win-7-sp1?forum=winserverTS Manage Add-Ons. The MSTSCAX.DLL file is present, and When I REGSVR32 it, it reports it's successfully registered, but nothing changes. REGSVR32 won't unregister it, however: "The module "mstscax.dll" was loaded but the call to DllUnregisterServer failed with error code 0x80040153." I tried deleting the keys shown here: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/winserverTS/thread/a26d42ed-e3e2-4a5e-8ecc-0dc228545872 No joy. The GUIDs in that postdon't exist, here, but I renamed the parent key and tried launching IE. I was prompted to enable/disable various add-ons, but they did not include the RDWEB control. New registry keys were created for the enabled add-ons, but the RDWEB control did not come back, even after re-registering MSTSCAX.DLL. So my question is: Given that this is Win 7 SP1 and no standalone RDC installer is available for it, is there a way I can uninstall and reinstall the ActiveX control, short of reinstalling Windows? Tried regsvr32, it registered successfull, but still the same problem. Downloaded version 6.1 from the MS website, which I think is the latest version. But I get the message "Setup has detected that the Service Pack version of this system is newer than the update you are applying. There is no need to install this update." It may have been updated by Windows update. It doesn't appear in Add/Remove programs. So I don't know how to do a fresh install. 0 Thai Pepper OP Helpful Post PsyWulf Nov 14, 2011 at 5:35 UTC I've seen a specific trojan lock and modify the MSTSC dll ( pinpointed the offending application by running a ProcView after restoring the file to the correct version ). This modified file caused this same crash when attempting to open the Remote Desktop Client. You can run a mfc /scannow ( or repair install ),then using a boot disk copy this dll
