is because the certificate on the server is a self-signed certificate (issued by the server itself). As I learned in the articlethe behavior is by default. Ufortunately, the workaround link is useless because it leads to a non-existing article. How do I specify a custom (issued by my CA) certificate to the RD install certificate for remote desktop connection WebAccess site? Thank you in advance! Are the computers that try to access the RD Web in AD? Please look into this article: http://blogs.msdn.com/b/rds/archive/2008/12/18/ts-gateway-certificates-part-ii-how-to-deploy-a-certificate-on-ts-gateway.aspx Setting up SSL for RD Web access is very much IIS related, so you need to follow this one as well: http://learn.iis.net/page.aspx/144/how-to-set-up-ssl-on-iis-7/ Hope that helps. R2 – How to Create a (Mostly) Seamless Logon Experience For Your Remote Desktop Services Environment Tech Editor: Toby Phipps - MVP, Remote Desktop Services Here is the article in PDF Format: 2012R2 - RDS - Seamless Logons - Kristin Griffin One of the most common questions I get from people implementing RDS is “I want a seamless logon process but I am http://www.rdsgurus.com/ssl-certificates/windows-2012-r2-how-to-create-a-mostly-seamless-logon-experience-for-your-remote-desktop-services-environment/ not getting it. How do I provide access to my RD Session Host Session Collection(s) with the least amount of pop-up windows / SSL certificate warnings, and requiring the user to enter their credentials only once?” The short http://www.concurrency.com/blog/w/rds8-gateway-and-certificates-on-windows-server-20 answer is that you can attain a seamless logon, but you have to configure your environment correctly (in multiple places, and on multiple servers) in order to make this happen. To achieve secure connections and simple sign-on experience to remote desktop an RDS environment you will need to enable server authentication for all servers in the connection chain, and enable some form of single sign-on. First I will explain how the core RDS security technologies work to secure the RDS environment and the incoming session connections. Then I will show you how to configure security settings and SSL certificates on all servers in order to both achieve a secure connection and also minimize pop-ups and logon prompts. Before remote desktop services we dive in, I’d like to explain two assumptions I make in this paper: you’re using RDP 8.1 and all examples use wildcard certificates. Unless you have a really good reason not to use RDP 8.1, then I strongly recommend that you get the latest version of RDP, available back to Windows 7 SP1. RDP 8.1 gets you the latest and greatest performance. It also radically simplifies what you must do to enable SSO. If you can’t, then refer to Appendix A. Second, I’m using wildcard certificates because this is the simplest way to use the same certificate for all servers. The names you use on your certificates must match the name the server uses to identify itself. The wildcard certificate takes the guess work out of this. You don’t have to use wildcard certificates, but if you don’t then you’ll need to be very careful about which certs you install on which servers. Enable Server Authentication One danger of communicating with a remote computer that requires you to supply your credentials is that the server might not be what you think it is. If it’s a malicious server impersonating a real one, you could inadvertently provide your credentials to an attacker. Server authentication checks to ensure that you’re connecting to the server you think you’re connecting to. If the servers you communicate with don’t pass the server authenti
Windows Server 2012 by Shannon Fritz Read more Step-by-Step Guides on Remote Desktop Services in Windows Server 2012. As the name implies, Remote Desktop Services is a way of delivering services for desktops that are not “local”. However, the Quick and Standard deployments of RDS do not include a key component that makes these services available from outside your organization: the RDS Gateway. This role is acts at a proxy over HTTPS to allow a client to tunnel over SSL to your internal resources, limiting exposure and securing communications. In Server Manager, if you want to deploy a separate server for the RDGW role, you’ll want to add that new server to the console which is already managing the rest of your RDS environment. I like to use the manager on the RDCB for this, but any Server Manager console that is managing all of your RDS hosts will work just the same. In this example I am going to be adding the role to the same server that is already running the RDWA role, so the RDGW and RDWA will be on one server. From the Remote Desktop Servcies area just click on the big green + above RD Gateway to get started. Select the server that you want to install the role and add it to the Selected list on the right.Pick a DNS name that clients will connect to in order to use the Gateway This should be theExternal DNS namethat can be resolved to an IP address that willNAT port 443 to the RDGWserver. NOTE: In this example the RDGW and RDGA roles are on the same server, both of which use port 443. However, if you also NAT port 80 then the RDWA server will redirect web browsers from HTTP to HTTPS. Without access to port 80 your users will have to remember to typehttps://when accessing the RDWA. It’s just being nice to your users really. Also notice that the wizard mentions a Self-Signed Certificate. We will change this in just a moment, so click Next. On the Confirmation page just click Add if you’re happy with the config. Once completed successfully click Close. Notice thewarning that a certificate must be configured. You can click on Configure certificate, but if you click Close you can still manage the certificate by selecting “Edit Deployment Properties” under the Overview Tasks. At this point you can decide to crea
