not associated? Discussion in 'Software' started by wolfend31, Jun 18, 2009. wolfend31 Private E-2 I wasn't sure where my problem fit in so I put it in with the malware section because I searched online and found that EULA.exe was associated with malware issues. I have a Hewlitt-Packard Laptop with windows vista as the operating system. I had a window from Adobe on my computer automatically recommend that I update my Adobe and to change it from 64 to 32 because it wasn't working anymore. I did the update, or at least I thought I did, and I still kept on getting the same message. I wasn't sure what the problem was so I clicked the "HP Documents" icon on my desktop just to see if i could figure out the problem (I don't know much about computers so I was being exploratory). After this a bunch of Adobe icons took place of my other desktop files. For example, my Itunes files still says "Itunes" but the symbol looks like an adobe document. This is the same case for a few other of my desktop items including something that says "uninstalled file," "HP Solution center," "HP Documents." Now when I try to open Itunes I get this error message "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the set association control panel." The file that it says this refers to has the path "C:/Program Files (x86)/Adobe/Reader 9.0/reader/eula.exe". There are also other files on my desktop that have the same error message when I try to access them. I really have no idea where to go with this and I want to make sure nothing is wrong and find a way to fix this. Please let me know if you can help! wolfend31, Jun 18, 2009 #1 chaslang MajorGeeks Admin - Master Malware Expert Staff Member Moved to the Software Forum since this is not necessarily a malware issue at this time. You just need to fix your file associations which someone here can help you with. Note that since you are running a 64 bit version of Windows, you should be using a 64 bit version of Adobe, not 32 bit. You may want to start by just using System Restore to revert back to a point before you create this problem. If you have other issues pointing towards malware, you need to run the READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide and then post your logs in the malware forum. chaslang, Jun 20, 2009 #2 plodr Major Geek Super Extraordinaire Right click one of the items with the wrong icon and select "open with" browse through your list of programs and pick the one that is supposed to open it. If it opens correctly, go back to the same icon, select "open with" again but this time, also put a check/tick in the box that says, always open this
