Windows installer returns error code 1642, and the text of the pop-up window is as follows:"The upgrade patch cannot be installed by the Windows Installer service because the program to be adobe reader error 1014 upgraded may be missing, or the upgrade patch may update a different version of the program. Verify that the program to be upgraded exists on your computer and that you have the correct upgrade patch."The same thing happens when I attempt to load the previous patch - version 10.1.0.I have already uninstalled and reinstalled Reader 10 base package with no problems, but the patch will still not load. account only takes a few minutes. Join Now As I'm sure many of you have done in the past, I'm attempting to deploy the 10.1.3 upgrade of Adobe Reader via https://community.spiceworks.com/topic/218228-how-do-i-script-an-upgrade-of-adobe-reader-from-10-1-1-to-10-1-3 login script on machines that already have 10.1.1. Also as I'm sure many of http://secunia.com/community/forum/thread/show/14063/adobe_reader_x_10_x_version_10_1_5_still_actionable_in_sccm you have done in the past, my eyes are turning red and all I can see is murder. What I've done: - Extracted the files from the .exe available from the Adobe FTP server (AdbeRdr1013_en_US.exe) to C:\\\\Adobe - Installed 10.1.0 to an administrative install point (AIP) at C:\\\\Adobe\\\\10.1.3 using: msiexec /a acroread.msi - Applied the patch AdbeRdrUpd1013.msp to the AIP using: msiexec adobe reader /a C:\\\\Adobe\\\\10.1.3\\\\acroread.msi /p C:\\\\Adobe\\\\AdbeRdrUpd1013.msi (I have also created a transform but for the purposes of this question, I believe it's irrelevant so I've excluded those steps) Here's where everything gets screwy. If I try to run the installer using: msiexec /i C:\\\\Adobe\\\\10.1.3\\\\acroread.msi I get this error: Another version of this product is already installed. Installation of this version cannot continue. To configure or remove the existing version of this product, use Add/Remove Programs on adobe reader error the Control Panel. From what I've read, this apparently happens because the .msi that is created during the 10.1.3 patching process still somehow retains the original "10.1" version number just like the 10.1.1 does so it thinks you've already got it installed and doesn't need to be re-installed. What have you out there in internet-land done to apply Adobe's quarterly updates on your banks of machines? Have you scripted an uninstall of the previous version as part of the install script? I don't think my situation is unique - I feel like I'm missing something extremely basic. Can any of you share what you've done to over come this? EDIT: And please don't assume I've skipped documenting a step or something - if I haven't written it above, I haven't done it.
