I use Visual Basic code to instance the control in an Excel worksheet. I can only run the VB script once, subsequent runs cause the following runtime error when attempting to access the 'ActiveSheet' variable: Microsoft Visual Basic Run-time error '-2147319765 (8002802b)': Automation error Element not visual basic automation found I am trying to work out what causes this error and how I can fix it? As an experiment I tried creating a simple ActiveX control generated by Visual Studio wizards (in both VS 2005 & 2008). I didn't add or modify any code in this test case. The simple test case still causes this error. Other ActiveX controls in the system don't cause this error (eg I tried instancing 'Bitmap Image') from VB code. This is the VB code (a macro that I recorded, but hand-coded VB has the same issue): Sub Macro1() ActiveSheet.OLEObjects.Add(ClassType:="test.test_control.1" _ , Link:=False, DisplayAsIcon:=False).Select End Sub Can anyone give me an answer on this? Alternatively any pointers to resources that may help will be appreciated. This is an unfortunate side-effect of using VB 6.0, but it is the only problem I know of using VB6

Short of sitting down in front of their computer and going through all the dlls to see which one was changed, any ideas? Any thoughts on whether or not upgrading to 3.5.3 (presently using 3.03) will take care of this problem? If the error occurs when running the application, then it means that one or more of your application files have been updated. You may want to check and see what files got updated on the machine that are pertaining to your application. You can try uninstalling your setup and reinstalling, however that may not necessarily fix the issue as a file may have been updated to a version later than the one in your setup. Thanks, Neeru Reply With Quote 05-01-2002,07:48 AM #3 jakedog Guest Neeru, Thanks. I updated to 3.53 and after they re-installed, it is working fine. I thought dll files were all backwardly compatible, but going over the Microsoft site, I found that it is mostly true, but not necessarily the case. I still don't see why the above would fix the problem, since I did not recompile the application, just rebuilt the setup.
