This made the workbook "loose" reference to MSCOMCTL.OCX (quote marks on "loose", because the reference is still ticked but no longer works, the workbook doesn't compile because of "Compile error: Object library feature not supported" or "Automation error") It seems that the update modifies the registry key HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\TypeLib{831FDD16-0C5C-11D2-A9FC-000F8754DA1}\ by adding a SubKey 2.0, but leaves it empty, and doesn't register the new MSCOMCTL.OCX. Fixing the problem requires 3 steps: 1) MSCOMCTL.OCX. needs to be un-registered and re-registered (Start button/search/command/right click command prompt/run as admistirator: c:\Windows\system32>Regsvr32 /u C:\Windows\SysWOW64\MSCOMCTL.OCX c:\Windows\system32>Regsvr32 C:\Windows\SysWOW64\MSCOMCTL.OCX When registering the new MSCOMCTL.OCX (Version 6.1.98.46) via REGSVR32, a new key is added in the Registry: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\TypeLib{831FDD16-0C5C-11D2-A9FC-000F8754DA1}\2.2 If there was a SubKey named 2.1 already existing, it enters a reference that 2.2 is now the Key for use. But it doesn't do anything to the empty 2.0 SubKey ! If there is a 2.0 (or 2.1 for that matter) SubKey with nothing in it, any object using that OCX

However the same code when run in Excel 2003 SP3 on Windows 7 32 gives Run Time Automation Error at line Set asc1 = CreateObject("System.Text.UTF8Encoding") I am unclear why it is failing in Excel 2003. Assuming it has something to do with dot net framework I re-installed dot Net 4.0 while 3.5.1 is already part of Windows 7 and Feature already enabled. There is very similar post on this site here but even it does not have a solution. What else should I troubleshoot further? Could this be something to do with missing or corrupt components / libraries or anything related? Thanks. Public Function SHA1(str1) Dim asc1 As Object Dim enc1 As Object Dim bytes, outstr, pos Set asc1 = CreateObject("System.Text.UTF8Encoding") Set enc1 = CreateObject("System.Security.Cryptography.SHA1CryptoServiceProvider") bytes = asc1.GetBytes_4(str1) bytes = enc1.ComputeHash_2((bytes)) outstr = "" For pos = 1 To LenB(bytes) outstr = outstr & LCase(Right("0" & Hex(AscB(MidB(bytes, pos, 1))), 2)

It works properly the first or second time I run Excel after a system restart. After that I receive an error stating: Run-Time Error '-2147417848 (80010108)': Automation error. The object invoked has disconnected from its clients. I uploaded and attached a screen shot of this error window. Once it occurs the first time, I get this error every other time on the connection .REFRESH command until I close down and restart my system. I'm wracking my brain trying to figure out why it works one or two times then stops. I've tried clearing IE cache and changing the IE page view setting to refresh the page on every visit thinking therre may be a link between how IE works the web and how my VBA code is interacting with the web, to no avail. I've searched Microsoft knowledgebase for this error and see references to it, but nothing seems related to getting this error when using the statement With Worksheets(1).QueryTables.Add(Connection:=... Does anyone have a clue what might be happening, or what else I can try to get around this problem? Thanks.
