Excel 2010 Vba Catastrophic Failure
Email: KB00686 - Fixing "Automation Error" in Excel after applying MS12-060 Product: PI BatchView / PI DataLink / PI Tag Configurator Version(s): Multiple Platform: Windows Issue If you have already applied the Microsoft patch MS12-060, you may see the error "Automation Error: Unspecified Error" or "System Error &H8000FFF (-2147418113). Catastrophic failure" when starting Microsoft Excel. When closing Excel with PI DataLink enabled, you may also see the error "Compile error in hidden module: modAddin." Solution Typically, these errors can be resolved by searching for and deleting all *.exd files on the machine (including hidden files) as described in KB00804. In some cases, the fix for this problem is to re-register MSCOMCTL.OCX. To do this, follow the steps noted in the Microsoft article "Unspecified Automation Error" after applying MS12-060.
