As they are apparently unencrypted (containing an AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS folder) I try and copy the entire disk but invariably get the error 'Cannot create or replace VTS_01_1. File system error (-2147351799)' or 'Cannot copy VTS_01_0. Cannot read from the source file or disk.' Hints toward a working approach most appreciated. Drag and drop? Do you encounter the same error using dvdshrink, or dvddecrypter? Quote 7th Dec 200907:05 #3 Leo48 View Profile View Forum Posts Private Message Member Join Date : Apr 2008 Location : Europe Sorry for the incomplete information. OS is XP Sp3. Yes, just drag and drop, as I thought I would not need a decrypter in this particular case, with unencrypted stuff. Even if they are not encrypted, a decryption program will correctly copy the contents from the disc to your hard drive. What you are doing is definitely not working, so just take the easy solution and use a decryption program. With DRAG-AND-DROP, the files HAVE to be completely recoverable in order for Windows to transfer them to your hard drive. A ripper will allow more leeway in copying, since bad sectors can be copied as best as they can. If the files are not encrypted, then Smartripper or DVDDecryptor will help you recover bad sectors in addition to copying the files to your harddrive. Cannot create or replace VTS_01_0: File System Error (-2147351799). Content Scramble System (CSS) How DVDs are encrypted to prevent copying: .... CSS was developed primarily by Matsushita and Toshiba. In October 1999, the CSS algorithm was cracked and posted on the Internet, triggering endless controversies and legal battles Not much has changed since that time as the manufacturers of DVD players and the producers of DVDs have to maintain compatibility with the vast amount of material released. Changing and adding to this encryption http://forum.videohelp.com/threads/313393-Write-DVD-to-Disk scheme would render a lot of current titles unplayable. The "industry" had its hopes set on Blu-Ray Disks solving this problem for them. However, this has not proven to be the case as there is a vast amount of DVD product available and consumers are largely satisfied with the quality. DeCSS ..... Shortly after the appearance of DeCSS, the http://www.tempusfugit.ca/techwatch.ca/css_error.html DVD CCA filed a lawsuit and requested a temporary injunction in an attempt to prevent Web sites from posting (or even linking to!) DeCSS information. DVD43 is a Windows executable that uses the techniques developed for DeCSS - CSS has become the defacto standard for DVD encryption - Nothing much has changed and BD (using a different encryption method) has had little impact on this. The major impact on the thwarting of CSS circumvention is the advent of Windows 64 bit versions rendering DVD43 inoperable. been ripped yet! Here's a brain teaser for you advanced types. I recently obtained the Oldboy Ultimate Edition, a http://forum.doom9.org/archive/index.php/t-86353.html fancy boxset for the Korean film. On the box it states "COPY http://www.mombu.com/hdtv/hdtv/t-what-does-it-mean-when-you-get-this-error-message-cannot-create-ore-replace-vts-file-system-error-16224913-last.html CONTROLLED DVD". Lo and behold, this DVD is resistant to the standard rippers. DVD Shrink doesn't see the movie, just the menus. SmartRipper starts to rip, than hangs with an error. DVD Decrypter starts to rip as well, but runs into a bunch of read errors. I'll post my cannot create DVD Decrypter log in a following post. I've never had a problem ripping any DVD, aside from scratched ones. I tried tweaking some settings in DVD Decrypter (remove PUOs, ignore read errors) and different methods (IFO read / ISO read). No dice. I am able to rip the other VOB files on the disc, but the VTS_01_1.VOB can't be copied. I'm cannot create or assuming this is not really an encryption scheme, but some kind of tricky IFO / DVD file structure that's faking out the software. The disc plays fine in my standalone and WinDVD. Unfortunately, if you're the type who wants to pick up a copy and try the challenge yourself, the Ultimate Edition is ~$100. Another version is coming out in a few weeks that's $20, which I assume would be mastered the same way. If you have any suggestions or want to see the IFO file let me know. Well my computer just froze up and it seemed like one thing after another started to go wrong. The DvD never finished copying, and it was about 45% complete when the computer froze. When I try to start the copying process again, I get this error message: "Cannot create or replace VTS_01_0.VOB: File system error (-2147351799)." What the heck happened??? The computer seems slower now (we bought it a week ago!) and last night a java icon that I have never seen before appeared on the task bar for about ten minutes before disappearing. WTF? I have Norton 2003 and Sygate Firewall...um, not that that really does ANY good. *rolls eyes* Is this a virus? The computer was fine until yesterday, though it did seem slower once we setup the network (my computer, husbands and step-son's). Any ideas what the problem is? Corrupt disk, virus, good ol' reliable Microsoft??? Thanks in advance.
