I am using a Toshiba 350 (only 3 months old ) and Windows vista home premium I am unable to burn a windows movie maker file. This is the 4th film I have made so I am familiar with the process. The others were O K I have tried different types of dvd, I have defragged,I have tried using different speeds I click on 'burn ' and it starts to work then when it gets to 39% I get errror messages . I have had two different error messages , One says '' Cannot create the DVD unspecified error. '' The other one says '' Cannot create DVD Catastrophic failure '' Just to test the burner I did try burning a small unedited file and it worked OK. The project I am trying to save is approx 2 GB jojoally, Mar 19, 2009 #1 jojoally Thread Starter Joined: Feb 2, 2009 Messages: 5 Just thought I would post what I discovered the hard way, just in case it helps anyone new users struggling with Windows Vista Movie maker (6) publishing and burning DVD. Like I was ! It was the size of the file that was the problem If you are making working on a project more than about 10 minutes , edit and publish Small sections separately then add them in to the DVD maker one at a time when you have finished . If you dont you may get the error messages I got - Cannot create DVD unspecified error Or Cannot create Catastrophic failure ALSO If you are editing a saved Movie maker file - If you are using title overlays , remove the title overlays FIRST , if you dont they are so small you may miss them and they may appear where you dont want them on the finished DVD. And Make sure there are no files hiding at the end of the Story board before you save or publish again. jojoally, Mar 24, 2009 #2 This thread has been Locked and is not open to further replies. I need to get this DVD burned as soon as possible and have no idea how I can fix the error which does not allow me to burn this DVD. A little background, I'm using my Toshiba Laptop which I just bought in June of this year. The video was recorded onto a scan disk in .MTS format. I downloaded and paid for a subscription of AVS to convert the file from . MTS to .WMV so I could edit the video in Movie Maker. I got everything converted and imported into Movie Maker, and have sucessfully played the whole video with Titles and Effects through Windows Media Player. So I now have a finished video project but, like I said up top, when I send it to publish to DVD it encodes up to about 52.7% and then gives me the "Cannot Create DVD - Unspecified Error". Any one that can help would be greatly appreciated! I'm burning only 2 .mpeg (both 1.4 GB) files, with Traditional Chinese characters in the title and notes. Is it maybe a memory problem? I had 4.6 GB free on my hard drive and got this error the first time I tried. Then, I freed my hard drive so it had 8.8 GB of free space, tried it again, and it's still giving me this problem. I have 4 GB of ram (on a 32 bit OS). I've checked wikipedia, the microsoft site, yahoo answers, the windows dvd maker community forum site, thispos.com, and I didn't get any reasons why windows DVD maker would give me an unspecified error message. What can I do to make Windows DVD maker successfully burn my DVD? Help please!! Follow 6 answers 6 Report Abuse Are you sure you want to delete this answer? Yes No Sorry, something has gone wrong.
