on this so just wanted to share some of my observations to save you some time. Incidentally Win XP Service Pack 2 installing MySQL 5.1.31 MSI. Seems like cannot create windows service for mysql error 0 windows 10 the non msi MySQL 4.1 installer doesn't have this problem. MY SOLUTION (Take UNLOADS and BACKUPS of data files/dirs if you need to. This is a full re-install) My solution was to get rid of all the profile application data. So ensure that you - uninstall the instance (including server) using instance configuration wizard, (in C:\Program Files\MySQL\My SQL cannot create windows service for mysql error 0 windows 8 Server 5.1\bin\MySQLInstanceConfig.exe), choosing remove. - now remove MySQL via Control Panel->add/remove programs, may need to F5 refresh list if not there. - make sure MySQL dir in C:\Program Files is now deleted in its entirety. There may be old Data files lying around. - *most importantly*, make sure that any MySQL dir in the following dirs are deleted. Mine weren't hidden but worth checking that too: = C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data = C:\Documents and Settings\

Windows People often checks MySQL's download section and when they notice that there is new version of MySQL released they just can't wait for a second & starts downloading it so that they can install it on their windows box https://ushastry.blogspot.com/2009/07/cannot-create-windows-service-for.html for testing purpose. Ok fine, download is completed its time to install it. Couple of http://vertstudios.com/blog/mysql-error0-cannot-create-windows-service/ successful "NEXT" and In the last step they encounter a error message such as "Cannot create Windows service for MySQL.Error:0" We are so intelligent ppl that we don't want to take any help from our colleague.. And what we do is we just delete the directory in which new installation has been done & starts the installation wizard one-more time cannot create in the hope that this time we gonna install it. Again the result is same "Cannot create Windows service for MySQL.Error:0" So why are we getting error that too at the last step? one common thought is "there must be something wrong or some sort of bug in the new release" How to resolve this error? The primary reason for this error is that you haven't properly uninstalled the previously installed MySQL server & in cannot create windows the installation wizard last step was to create the service with the name "MySQL" and which has the same name as that of the existing service (default is "MySQL"). Solution for this error is to first stop the service if it is running and then remove the service. C:\>NET STOP MYSQL The MySQL service is stopping. The MySQL service was stopped successfully. Once the service is stopped, it can be removed with the SC utility: C:\>SC DELETE MYSQL [SC] DeleteService SUCCESS With the previous service stopped and removed, you can now run the MySQL Configuration Wizard again to configure and start the new MySQL service. Did you stop the service before deleting? also I think you need to have administrative rights in order to add/delete services. July 21, 2009 at 9:28 AM Anonymous said... Subscribe Top Articles ⇒ How to Read a Programming Tutorial Converting a simple website to Python Flask Introduction to Recursion - Part 1 MySQL Error 0 Cannot Create Windows Service If you are visiting this page, most likely you have seen this on your screen after trying to reinstall MySQL 5.X This is the MySQL Error 0, which usually follows a windows notification that mysqld.exe has stopped working. After reading many forum posts, it appears that there is no definite answer as to how to solve the problem. However, I finally came across a method that worked for me, and hopefully it will work for you. The OS in this scenario is Vista 32-bit. The Problem The problem is MySQL did not properly uninstall. Remnants of MySQL still exist on your computer, and the configuration wizard can not create a new MySQL service because of this. An indication of this is the fact that while you were trying to reinstall MySQL, you may have been prompted to enter your "old password." A brand new configuration doesn't ask for this. The Solution Step 1)If MySQL is still Installed, run the MySQL Server Instance Config Wizard. (Should be found in your start menu under MySQL) Step 2)Select "Remove Instance". Step 3)Click Execute, and once complete, click finish. Step 4)Open the Command Prompt Step 5)Type in sc delete mysql into the command prompt. If it fails, that's fine. Step 6)Uninstall MySQL Server 5.X via the control panel. Step 7)Open the C:\ directory. Step 8)Make hidden folders visible. You can do this by pressing alt to bring up the menu, then go to Tools -> Folder Options. Click the View Tab, and look for "Hidden files and folders." Then click "Show Hidden Files and Folders". (If you need more guidance on making hidden files visible, you can visit the Microsoft tutorial.) Step 9)In you C:\ drive, you will now see a folder named ProgramData that was not visible before. Open it. Step 10)If you see the MySQL Folder, Delete it! Step 11)Check the C:\Program Files directory. If you see a MySQL Folder, Delete it! At this point, I was able to run the MSI Installer again and install MySQL normally.
